i've never quite understood why people balk at imports. if you shop in the right places, imports cost...what?...maybe $5 more or so. and if the music is good, why should the import price turn you off? instinct is crap. they just seem to be more about selling what will make them $ than working towards releasing any serious sort of sound. their compilations consist of almost always previously released material, some of which has been kicked around for years and been on every other compilation already! an example is 'space is the place' by IF. how many comps have they put that track on already? they were still putting it on comps made last year! instinct's gone from early rave sounds to ambient and acid jazz and are now trying to milk the jungle bandwagon and trip hop too. i can't respect them and the only instinct releases i buy are the albums they license. i don't think you should look to instinct to release anything good except what is exceedingly hot at the moment. and that seems to be ambient. i will exclude thaemlitz from my instinct bashing though. he's excellent.

uh. i've always seen trance as being really overabundant. i don't find it difficult to find either. check out the visible label, they do some nice trance stuff (imo), air liquide, anything from rising high, spicelab, harthouse (new 2 disc compilation is really good), etc. although i bet you might already have most of this stuff. the latest spicelab album is really great too, imo. -- o _/,_ . /o...\__// fk453@cleveland.freenet.edu \_'__/``\` \`

Agreed. Smooth as the last one. But since the domestic (US) copy is on Planet Earth, how easy is this to find with Planet Earth going under? I nabbed the only copy yesterday that I had ever seen. Hey wait a minute! Jason Blakemore is GOD! Oh, no, wait. Trance totally sucks. Forget I said anything. If you really want to go old school, Babyland plays this Saturday night at the Coconut Teaser. Although I dunno if they'll let you in without a leather jacket and a Flying V and dangly earrings. Don't know who else is on the bill, but it's been scientifically proven that it is impossible to not have fun at a Babyland show. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

catch a house set from jason one night in a non-candy environment and i bet (if you like house) you will be pleasantly surprised. he can spin some very nice stuff.

Fortunately there's a lot more to trance music than candy-rave stuff. But pop-trance is where the most money is. Psychedelic trance is regarded by most ravers as 'too weird' so it tends to be confined to word-of-mouth events. Anig Browl _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yeah, some of those too :-) Psy people like to have some sort of vague cosmological excuse to throw a party and munch acid, which is why there are always more psy parties the weekend of the full moon...the energy is better, man :) Ah well, there are worse things than being a techno hippy.
