Do you have to get your trance fix from Instinct or FAX. Why don't you go out when not sleeping and get some trance from other labels, e.g. Rising High... so you can have your 'real' music. Mohsen

All the U.S. Rising High is released on Instinct. I also have a couple of Rising High imports. That's the problem, boy. You have to spend mucho dollars on imports because other than about 2 releases a year, Instinct has all but given up on trance. Just look at the difference between Plug In and Turn on 1 and 2. Get my drift? Good trance is very difficult to get these days. I'll let you know when I wake up, whether anything changes. PS-I'm still looking for GOOD advice. Mistress ov Disappointment

The best thing to do is to stay away(far away) from the Rising High-licensed stuff on Instinct. IMO, They have completely screwed up the label for American listeners You want straightforward trance? There are many labels that come to mind (unfortunately, no too many in 'merika) Rising High, Touche(Belgian), Juice Records(Austrailia), and of course Harthouse/Eye-Q for more of a hypno-acid-trance workout on your ears. For stateside stuff, look to nearly any artist in the Bay area. My faves are Hardkiss Records & groups like God Within, Hawke & others. What is YOUR idea of trance? What machines/sounds do you like? Maybe I could direct you better if I knew that... Derek Jordan

My apologies to Mohsen. I'm a bit crabby today and I shouldn't have been so biting in my comments (I'm also very tired, and as such, didn't read the post as well as I should have taking it as a slam. I think I'm paranoid). Call be a bitch, you won't be the first.. Anyway, I'm just frustrated with the lack of good trance available these days. Is it me, or do I sense a dry spell in terms of good trance? Mistress ov PMS

from following this list I would trust your judgement. I picked these things up with "trance" in the title: - psychotrance - gets good around track 6, its pretty good for several more tracks, then tames down. - psychotrance 2 - I'm still looking for a track that picks me up and takes me to a real good feel peak, can't seem to find it. - trance lunar paradise - by dave angel, although I've read 2 good recommendations for this I've only found a good spot near the end of disc 2, and each disc is just one big track. that doc martin flamable cd has a nice deep sorta slow beat towards the middle that i've just about worn out, but I guess that's more housey. what about some good older trance recommendations that i can add to my collection?

Many apologies for sending that empty message. My copy of Outlook was playing up. It seems to be alright now (fingers crossed). Sorry about that, everybody. The message that I was trying to send before is quoted below..enjoy. ---Q-U-O-T-E-D---M-E-S-S-A-G-E---S-T-A-R-T-S--- Now, I'm breaking out my GREAT BIG ROCK(tm) with which I intend to kill many birds... First off, this list is about IDM. I guess that covers news about IDM, as well as IDM itself, as James Knapman so rightly said. So that makes it alright to discuss the Plaid/BD issue. However, this business is between Black Dog and Plaid and until we (ie - everyone other than BD and Plaid) know more about the situation, I don't think sides should be taken at all. Of course, if you /do/ know the whole story, then it's quite alright for you to make bold statements about who is in the right and who is not, as long as you can back up your arguments with solid facts. In any case, there isn't any point in getting worked up about it as there's nothing we can do about it anyway. - I was interested by the messages about the 'IDM lifestyle'. While it's true that some people live lives which come through in their music, for the most part it's not possible to say that people live their music. Of course there are exceptions...the 'rock and roll lifestyle' for example. I read an article in some magazine last year about how S-Club 7 were having a great time living the rock and roll lifestyle! Also, in Britain there seems to be a house/garage lifestyle emerging. Guys who go out on a Friday and Saturday night wearing the uniform (bright Ben Sherman / YSL shirt, smart combat pants / chinos, horrible big shiny black shoes with huge shiny buckles) and all have the same haircut. Apart from the metal scene (black, black, black), I haven't seen anything quite like it. I really don't believe there's such a thing as an IDM car (but if there was, what would it be?) and unless I'm horribly mistaken, the original posting wasn't about 'IDM headphones' but about which headphones were suitable for listening to IDM. We all know that you can into a store and buy a hi-fi more suited for playing classical music than dance music etc...why not the same with headphones? BTW - I saw a pair of Sony cans that claimed to be 'pro-quality' with a frequency response quoted as 60Hz - 16kHz. Standards must be slipping... Well, in York, I'm involved with the underground drum'n'bass/breaks/hiphop scene and I've never seen such a range of characters anywhere else. We get goth types, piercing fetishists, students, even the previous mayor of York turned up to one of our gigs! The moral of the story: don't conform for the sake of conforming and don't be different for the sake of being different. Just be yourself. - Moving on, I downloaded Jetjag's track 'Errol' the other day and I haven't been able to stop listening to it since. It's wicked! Reminds me of 'Blue Room'. - I haven't seen anyone mention Red Snapper yet. Are they IDM or not really? Also, does anyone here read Future Music? Opinions? Which label is Mr Scruff signed to? I heard someone play 'Fish Dances' on my uni radio station and I'd like to know where I can find it. - I'm quite new to the IDM scene and I hope I haven't stepped on anybody's toes with this posting. If I have, I apologise. Whooo...I'm tired now! Byee. So, please write to me again and I'll get back to you. ---Q-U-O-T-E-D---M-E-S-S-A-G-E---E-N-D-S--- There ya go. Cheers! Hmm...it seems I made a typo. Yeah, I've got that Irresistible Force LP. I think the Mr Scruff track I meant was actually called just 'Fish'. It uses loads of fish-related vocal samples including part of the 'Fish Dances' vocal. But thanks for your help. Ninja Tune. 1999. Album titled Keep it Unreal. Great sense of humour - strong release. The actual track Fish is also on Ninja's Funkungfusion compilation.
