Phat retro-review, Dave! I take it your copy also incites mad stylus drift on the off-center "I" side, right? Have you heard _Q 1.1_? More dancefloor oriented than the Dub, but *so* smooth. I love it. The question remains though: who is Quadrant? Is it yet another Maurizio guise, or is it someone else entirely? I do know that Carl Craig has worked with the Basic Channel posse. Could it be him? That would explain the Planet E connection. Any IDM'ers have a clue on this one? - Matthew

Yeah, it's unreal -- at points the stylus swings a full half an inch back and forth with every revolution. It was when I realized that this was intentional and not some really bad mispressing that I "understood" the record. If you look closely you'll note that the center hole is drilled right in the middle of the record, but the grooves are cut in an elliptical spiral rather than a round one, which is where that seasick/phasing stuff comes from.

I don't have it, but there are still a few copies of it at Recordtime so I'll pick one up.

My guess would be that Quadrant is Maurizio and Carl Craig, though this is pure speculation (and while I'm making wild guesses, I think maybe Phylyps is Maurizio and Jeff Mills). More wood for the rumor/bullshit bonfire. :) btw, I realize I screwed up the cat number (I told you my trainspotting hat was on backwards) -- Quadrant Dub is BC06, not BC05. ----------------------------------------------------------------- dave walker, detroit art services marmoset@msen.com sivie minieskrot Dave Walker

I'm not positive who's behind the BC-05 release(my guess is Maurizio w/ Carl Craig), but I was thumbing through some of the detroit stuff at home & spun Q 1.1 on a real dreary night and really got into it. I have to wonder if the new Carl Craig album will be anything like Q 1.1, if so, i'm sold... Derek Jordan

Quadrant is Mauritz Oswald (Maurizio), of Palais Schaumburg fame... Love, AA Allert Aalders - Big Time Concepts |"When you eliminate the improbable allert@knoware.nl | whatever remains, however impossible | must be the truth" - Svlad Cjelli
