cos it's mostly crap? i dunno, i have been impressed enough with other Beyond Records stuff to buy it without hearing it. i found this one for $10 but i still feel a little cheated. "the calling" is awesome but not much else is. ok, if pressed i will admit liking the first and last tracks, and "bathdub". i'll keep it for those... I have to agree. What is it with APL? Normally I'm a big fan of filter sweeps, but this record...Strange that a record that has so much in common with records I like just seems to suck all over. All APL seems to be so...cheesy. Cameron On Tue, 28 Mar 1995, Jon Drukman wrote:

1995-03-29 23:55BioplayI was very dissapointed with Synaesthetic as well, except for the Calling which is awsome.

I was very dissapointed with Synaesthetic as well, except for the Calling which is awsome. APL has a good song on TEE two and some more good stuff on the Beyond Ambient Dub comps. I think Sefan still has hope though. Damon

All APL seems to be so...cheesy. ----------------------------------------------------------- And I have to strongly diagree with this statement. I don't have the APL album, so I can't comment on that, but the two APL tracks on Ambient Dub: vol 3 are excellent...so not *all* APL is cheesy. Tony

don't what you've been smoking my man, but there is only one APL track on ADV3 (I just double-checked - it's "Hypnosystem") and it is pretty damn cheesy IMO. that lame-o stuttering digeridoo sample really pushes it over the edge. maybe you're thinking of Ambient Dub Vol 2. that has "The Calling," which, as has been previously noted, is completely awesome. can it be any coincidence that this is the only track on the album on which stefan p. has collaborated with another person? i think not. -- Name: Jon Email: jsd@cyborganic.com Web: http://cyborganic.com/~jsd

ADV3 (I just double-checked - it's "Hypnosystem") and it is pretty damn Sorry. typo on my part. It is volume 2 I'm referring to. Yes, "The Calling" is great. "Universal Message" ain't too bad either. In fact almost the entire Ambient Dub 2 is on a similar level. A bonafide "cladssic." that's "classic.".... It must be all that Fax crack I'm doing.... Tony

i find this REALLY hard to believe. i too have not heard the album in its entirety, but from a musician's standpoint, "the calling" is about as perfect a track as they come. the 303 programming is incredible. "the calling" was recently mentioned in keyboard magazine as being an example of near perfect 303 programming. to have given up so much room to have people dissing the album and calling it shitty is very surprising. i'll give the album a good listen before i start throwing out accusations of people jumping on the overbooked Dis Bandwagon. psiborg

i totally agree. why is everybody having such a hard time believing me? yes, the calling rocks. it's the only track on the album that really shines. it's also the only one to list another author in the writing credits. i don't suppose that's any coincidence. just listen to the lp. if you think "pleidean communications" and "hypnosystem" are anywhere in the same galaxy as "the calling" then i want some of whatever it is you're smoking.
