well you said that you liked Sad World and Namlook 7, both of which you just picked up. I think that a good way to find out what you like is to get to know a particular artist. I had a few FAX releases on vinyl and don't normally buy CDs but I was following Atom Heart and fell in love with some of his full length albums on FAX and that's how I was hooked. I started following Dr. Atmo, thinking that this was Atom Heart using yet another pseudonym but I was wrong. I was led to Silence when it was released on vinyl and I loved most of it. Later came Sad World (which also blew me away!) and then The Whole Traffic and Music To Films. I love the ethnicity that Dr. Atmo brings into the music. So far I've loved everything I've heard from Dr. Atmo, Atom Heart (deep ambient and ambintelligent), Tetsu Inoue (dark & deep) and the Bill Laswell (that BASS!) releases on FAX. I'm also really impressed by the independant artists that have appeared on FAX sublabel like Daniel Pemberton, Chris Meloche, etc. I'm looking forward to David Reeves' album called Otras which a good friend of mine suggested and should be coming out soon. You may be more into Namlook himself or some of the more recent additions to the every growing family like Charlie Edwards or Jonah Sharp. I like the interaction and the results as all these artists bounce off each other, which you really can't avoid anyway.

I think it is but then again, I exchanged several pieces of communication with someone at Instinct and they accepted my suggestions for track selections. To my surprise, they included a lot of my suggestions! So of course I'm going to say that I like it but in all modesty, I requested that since they were going to be releasing a lot of ambient albums, that they should focus more on the recent *intelligent dance* side of things for the compiltion. It's a double CD so no matter what, it's going to give you quite a sampling of what the label is like and how it can vary. My top 3 votes for the best intelligent dance releases in 1994 are: 1. From Within (Richie Hawtin & Namlook) 2. Atom Heart - Flextone (on Rather Interesting) (although this isn't on FAX, he also has many beautiful & more ambient releases on FAX also, which would be more appropriate for a top 10 ambient list) 3. The Whole Traffic (Dr. Atmo & Basalt Boys) and I'll post the rest to IDM seperately. ___ / / / / / / _ __/ (_/__/ / (__ (__ ___/
