hello folks here's some recent brainfood techno that's wiggling my joystick ... BEDOUIN ASCENT - Science Art Ritual (Rising High) incredible diverse bedroom techno crazyness this man is a genius DAN CURTIN Vs KEN ISHI ep Voices from another Age (Sublime) his most accessible yet Ken weirds it up some tho KENNY LARKIN - Catatonik (R&S) § with Carl Craig, Stacey Pullen mixes! Get well soon, Kenny! BLACK DOG - Spanners (WARP) more ideas than most artists have in a career you need this! VIBERT & SIMMONDS - Weirs (Rephlex) Another masterpiece from Luke! DJ CRISTAL - Let it Roll (Internal) I guess this must be Ambient Jungle ... whatever, it's good! PLASMA LAMP EP - (Switch) This is as far out as it gets! I think this is Hurens & Himadri of Teste fame ... anyway now its been reissued and the pressing is much better this also has a track with the strangest time signature I ever heard, something like 11.5/16! and of course there's HIMADRI EP - (Plus Eight) I love Plus 8 for all these mad EPs with zero concession to the mainstream LARRY HEARD - Sceneries not Songs LP (Black Market) Beautiful mellow music from the TRUE house originator! Larry of course recorded many of the earliest and best house trax as MR FINGERS and FINGERS INC and also made the first real house LP (?) with AMNESIA. LA SYNTHESIS = ep (Plink Plonk) Smart techno from Mr Cs label, quite like Autechre Nice ambient mix too. MOVE D EP (Fifth Freedom) Skip the main track and find three fine chilled techno trax from the Deep Space Network guys ... they also do Earth II Infinity, View to View, etc ... AUTECHRE - Amber should need no recommendations, buy it now ... so many tunes, so little time ...! mixmaster morris ON NOW : Eric Nouhan 'Aquarius' (Outland) yes yes yes -------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- GLOBAL CHILLAGE the new LP from IRRESISTIBLE FORCE out NOW!!! --- --- check out Mixmaster Morris's ambient information server at --- --- http://www.southern.com/MMM/homepage.html (in the uk) --- --- http://www.mit.edu:8001/people/trellos/homepage.html (in the US) --- --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ain't that the truth... OnNow: Public Enemy, _It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back_. Seriously, don't any of you listen to anything but dance and ambient? Or are we all telling little fibs about what we're listening to? Jesse

Oh, as well as a load of techno/IDM, I listened to Warren G & Nate Dogg "Regulate" (single) last night, also Beastie Boys "Sure Shot" EP having bought it yesterday for 50p. Great fun. But I wouldn't normally post a review or recommendation of it to the IDM list, simply because its not what we're supposed to be here to talk about J ^ James Skilton aka Steady J - jamess@firefox.co.uk

Fair enough. I was just wondering if everybody put on idm to read idm-list :) OnNow: Mu-ziq, _Tango 'n' Vectif_. Almost out of here for the night. Jesse

Well, I think some of us try to stick to the IDM format when we're on the list, and mention other genres on other lists. :) FWIW, _It Takes a Nation_ is brilliant; Terminator X is one of the best sonic constructionists out there! Believe the hype. OnNow: Ultramarine's _Every Man and Woman is a Star_. OnLastNight: _Never Mind the Bollocks_. Never mind Terminator X... Hank Shocklee and Eric Sadler are the real masterminds... On Now: Ozric Tentacle "Jurassic Shift" -- Name: Jon Email: jsd@cyborganic.com Web: http://cyborganic.com/~jsd

Why isn't he credited as a producer on Nation of Millions, then? I always wonder when people mention him and not the Bomb Squad. C. -- (Chris.Hilker) cspot@hyperreal.com

you got it right chris... bomb squad are the ones responsible for the loops/beats/layering/programming. and good on them, say i. i used to buy anything with their name on it. if you can, find the SON OF BAZERK lp. now that's what *i* call IDM... funkiest shit this side of kool and the gang. -- Name: Jon Email: jsd@cyborganic.com Web: http://cyborganic.com/~jsd

I think that Curtins most accessible/DJ-friendly stuff was on that Apogee 12" that he done for Peacefrog. 4/4 beats and 303s dominate, but that innovative spark is still there... anyway "Voices From Another Age" is still one of my favourite Curtin efforts. I love the way he refuses to stick with the same theme all the way through a track - riffs, chord sequences and beats change so by the end you wouldnt think it was the same track you'd started listening to...

Damn! Another record of mine loses its trainspotter cred... :) This is the sort of record my friends hate (but they can only just handle the Jam & Spoon LP). Love dropping this in a set, and totally doing peoples heads in...! Brendan Nelson Lost Transmission From Southall OnNow: Spoonie Gee: Spoonin' Rap (we hear ya Jesse)

Actually, i think this may NOT be the teste folx though i may be wrong. As far as i know the only thing they have in common is that the plasmalamp people are from burlington which is the same area the teste folx live. I'm basing this on what my friend in hamilton told me and some fellows in this local noise band who also gave me the same info. Of course it could be completely wrong! BTW-is this a reissue of the red vinyl pressing from plasmalamp? There's absolutely no info on my copy except that it says (in hand writing) on the outer sleeve 'plasmalamp'. karl
