Check Takagi Masakatsu for a stunning variety of genre-less music from a genius multi-instrumentalist. Ranges from noble ensembles of string instruments to delicious IDM-Pop: my favorite made up genre. Check Ryoji Ikeda for a unique take on experimentation in audio. I'd say he looks at music from an avant garde perspective, and has instillation pieces to prove it! Perhaps takes elements from Alva Noto and SND. I'd love to discover some Japanese Hip Hop! Ryoji Ikeda is indeed massive. Tujiko Noriko makes really nice electronic music with her own vocals. Ranges from poppy to abstract. http://www.discogs.com/artist/10122-Tujiko-Noriko Not IDM at all really but great stuff for adventurous listeners is "onkyo", the loose collective of improving Japanese musicians that generally work in quieter forms of free improv. *Toshimaru Nakamura* being my personal favorite of the bunch. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onkyokei On Tue, Mar 11, 2014 at 4:11 PM, Alex Halstead <alex.v.halstead@gmail.com>wrote:
