hmm, i guess that would probably be The Orb in '91. they played 'little
fluffy clouds' and 'perpetual dawn' on the radio around here, and despite
my steadfast desire to "hate techno," i started to get into it. if you
count Pop Will Eat Itself then it would have been more like
'90. but my defining plunge into the electronic world came in early '95
in Mod Lang in Berkeley. i went in there and they were playing this
weird, angular, fast music that made geometric shapes fold and unfold in
my head. holy shit! i asked them what it was and they told me it was
Source Direct. i started buying drum n' bass. then someone played
Squarepusher for me, and suddenly a whole new world of listening to
expensive imported records was open before me... :)
