THE BLACK DOG RELEASE TRIBUTE TO WILLIAM BURROUGHS Pioneering electronica collective The Black Dog proudly present their 6th album Unsavoury Products, a tribute to the Beat author William Burroughs... The Black Dog were collaborating with Bill Burroughs prior to his death (the resulting album will surface in the future). For Unsavoury Products they have joined forces with the performance artist and poet Black Sifichi to present a seamless mix of 20 tracks, spanning over an hour, inspired by the work and life of William Seward Burroughs. Unsavoury Products was built upon the organic foundations of Burroughs work. His creative spirit is stamped all over the album; from the low-fi, emotional tapestry of beats provided by The Black Dog to the uncompromising vocal talents of Black Sifichi, reading original material in the style of Burroughs. The sleeve artwork features original paintings by Burroughs. Burroughs infamous "cut-up technique" is applied liberally throughout the album. The results have a strong literary theme, with Sifichi reading extracts of his own surreal text alongside The Black Dog's mystical and intimate sounds that capture the bizarre and disturbing world of Burroughs. The arabic beats reflect Bill's period in Tangiers, the track b4 the sky was built suggests his infamous drug-fuelled nightmares, followed by the dry humour of inconspicuous audiometric and the subtle beauty of the closing track pidgeon chest. Unsavoury Products provides the perfect soundtrack for your next journey to the Interzone. In a musical climate of disposable chart music and formulaic club remixes, The Black Dog continues to walk a solo path; unsavoury to some, inspiring to others... but always unique. Unsavoury Products will be found on Hydrogen Dukebox.
