i was talking to a pal of mine about my tastes in [traditional]
drum'n'bass. i LOVE d+b that sounds like hiphop [capone, souljah,
lemon d] and jungle that sounds like house [aqua sky, stuff on
additive, older moving shadow gear]. but i HATE jungle that sounds
like jungle [think creative source + good looking/looking good]. the
only exception to this rule is seba + lotek's _so long_.
someone mentioned earlier this summer the technical leaps and bounds
made by the tech steppers. some of the most exciting gear i'm hearing
is from the likes of dominic angus, ed rush, and optical + tuns
from the metalheadz, droppin' science, and valve labels. it may seem
like traditional techstep to some, but i've noticed a desire
to drift away from the use of traditional breaks and
more distorted, processed, and produced beats [especially dom's work].
_concrete shoes_ and _12.01_ are two prime tracks for 12" buyers.
jungle may get a [deserved] throttling from the press for it's
lack of a logical progression, but there are some artists who are
pushing boundries and are still receiving club play.
