scooper@best.com nailed just about all of the Kingsuk B. action, but left out: Further Self Evident Truths EP (RSN 102) [crouced on broken glass, winter trees, manganese in deep violet, tripped on beats, hidden surface] one of KB's finest after the MDI track. remember how Coldcut brilliantly wove "Manganese In Deep Violet" into their Journeys By DJ CD? only "Crouched on Broken Glass" was repeated on _Music for Particles_. the other four tracks are exclusive to this record. v/a:Further Self Evident Truths 2 (RSN CD39) "Off the Bone" - between GPR-years BDP and Wagon Christ's _At Atmos_ with feistier drum programming than either v/a:Avantgardism (Law & Auder LA ANGE 1 CD) "Cat Can Blow!" - another great one. as good as the track on MDI. scuffling bass, a racket of complex Dn'B programming, and a creeping dark-alley sense of menace. KB even works in that drone from his Leaf track. this one just about says/has it all. v/a: East-Westercism (Law & Auder LA ANGE 2 CD) "Border Crossing" - KB in weird-beard mode. same stalking bass sound from the first L&A comp but jumbled up with Arabic voices, breakbeat tablas, bells, whistling electronics and organics, and other strange noises which all but suffocate the rhythms(which are very Witchman-ic this time out). beautiful, it really does feel like you're shielding your face from a sirocco-blown dervishes of sand while crossing Middle Eastern border lines under the watchful eye of Uzi-toting guards. many of the MIA Rising High artists reappear on these Law & Auder compilations - Syzygy, Friends, Lovers, and Family, Martin & Lisa... so maybe it's a sign of a R.H. rebirth yet to come. Lo Recordings 1: Extreme Possibilities (Lo CD 1) "Composition for Neutral Space" KB opens the disk with a short but very layered Doyle, Budd, or Cage-like piece of overlapping piano. for every melody you can trace, at least four others are moving in opposite directions. only 2:35, but one of my favorite KB pieces. refer to "LivingStream" on _Music for Particles_. Lo Recordings 2: Collaborations (Lo CD 2) (Slack Dog Ensemble) "Ruff Dog" Bedouin Ascent doesn't appear solo, but he's a member of SDE - along with Luke Vibert, Jon Tye, and .... ack! ____ Smith from God Machine. anyone? i don't know if this is KS's remix - don't have the Lo 12" for reference - but it's an amazing track no matter whose hands are getting dirty in it. look for the Flowershop 7" as well - two different versions of this great cut. there's a new Bedouin Ascent track on Virgin Ambient's _Jazz Satellites_ compilation. and there are probably one or two others floating around.
