Here is the Unit comments i post her back in October... ------------------------------------------------------ Funny that a Unit discussion arises on this list only a few days after I picked up the two Unit cds on Caipirinha - must be that IDM karma working again... : ) Anyway the two Unit cds i have are: . Unit: hello my name is unit cdep (Caipirinha) . Unit: narcoleptic symphony cd (Caipirinha) First off let me comment on Unit's first 4-track cdep called "Hello My Name is Unit... The style of this releases is a wonderful blend of melodic electronica and complex polyrhythms varying in style from downtempo electronica to d&b but all tracks have a nice smooth sound/flow to them. Many of the tracks on "Hello My Name is Unit" remind me of a band called EVA that was released on the Kickin label several years ago, also if you're familiar with the d&b forays by Sean Deason/Freq then you'll have an idea of Unit's sound. On Unit's new 12-track Narcoleptic Symphony cd he maintains the warm soothing feel of his first release but his rhythmic programming has become even more intricate veering towards the style of Garbage-era Autechre, EVA, Parallel Process-era Jake Mandell, or maybe Isophlux- era James Bernard. A really nice aspect of the Unit releases is how masterfully his tracks build up. In many cases it takes half the track of slow layering & building. In my opinion the way a track builds is very important and Unit does a great job of doing it. Also there are several nice ambientish tracks on this release as well. The final bonus is the last track on Narcoleptic Symphony is a Panacea remix of my favorite track from the "Hello My Name is Unit cdep." Overall i was pleasently suprised with Unit. I usually dont pay Caipirinha releases that much attention and i never recall seeing much mentioned before about Unit on any of the lists but when a friend send me these i realized that we have been missing out. Give these Unit releases a chance. Most idm-ers will be pleased with these... You can hear some samples of Unit's sound at the official Caipirinha website: http://www.caipirinha.com/ -->-Lance--- lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
