4th world communication If yer don't like reviews or want to discuss Aphex's equipment list - skip this post - if you want to read about some new vinyl that might brighten up your day - read on , all the releases listed are recommended so the reviews are brief (so unlike the Wire yer won't spend 3 days working out if the review is bad or good) *Releases you should investigate * Cheap Knob Gags - Volume 3 (CKG 3) UK Hard minimal percussive techno on A with flanging and Carl Craig style pitch bending , deep developing journey on flip side , complete with echoed bongos! Primitive Urges - Volume One (Primative Urges 1) UK 4 tracker from RAC and Swag producer ,four deep workouts that fall into that zone where house and techno sit side by side , emotive and soulful and most importantly godamn funky trax , with a touch of both Detroit and Chi -Town. Future Beat Alliance - Electric Blues (Void 002) UK Very abstract yet smooth electronica , reminds us of As - One,Black Dog, Stasis , lo - fi phuture funk with heaps of emotion. Daniel Ibbotson - "Souped Up" (Clear 414) UK Debut release from Glasgow boy who has tracks on up and coming Language compilation and A.R.T./Clear joint album.Stunning mish mash of jazz influenced electronic muzak. Street date 26/8/96 Edge of Motion - Ad Hoc (100% Pure) DUTCH 2 x 12" , but only 1 track aside , first in series of mixes from fothecoming Edge of Motion LP , artists featured on this release are Speedy J , Stefan Robbers , Delta and Sterac , all tracks use a basic electro foundation , but fly off at diverse tangents. Speedy J's mix is like a Chemical Brothers groove turned inside out , whilst Robbers injects a dub bassline , sinsiter mechanical breathing and twittering analouge synths. Sterac - Secret Life of Machines Remix Part 1 (100%Pure) DUTCH With mixes from Carl Craig and Mark Broom lined up in future , this is going to be an interesting series , the 2 mixes on this 12 come from Jamez (Touche) and Sensurreal. Jamez takes us on a thumping deep techno/house journey with shades of Basic Channel that really kicks in about 3/4 way through , the "Sensurreal" boys offer a delicate slice of liquid cooled electronica , with abstract beats and smooth melodies. Baby Mammoth - "10,000 Years under the Streets" (Pork035) UK First in a series of 3 new album releases from Pork , and for a change it's not produced by Steve Cobby - more onna abstract hip hop downtempo jazzy beat vibe but stamped with that unique Pork flavour. Next up is an album from the Bullitnuts. Street Date 27/8/96 Studio 6 / Studio 7 (Studio One 6/7) GERMANY Creating a bit of a stir these are! , been told Mike Ink is behind these 2 grooving pieces of minimal funky techno , imagine Robert Hood meets King Tubby and you'll be half way there! , big sound system music which hits you right where it counts. Zino - Future Frontier (FF 001) BELGIUM All out sonic attack from the guy behind the best Reload releases, speaker shredding techno - for all you Jeff Mills disciples out there. Last Disco Superstars - Last Disco Superstars (Grow 005) AUSTRIAN From the label that brought you releases by the Memory Foundation , 8 tracks of mutant warped disco , DJ Sneak with a healthy dose of humour and a rocket up the backside!! Dan Morgan - The Sum Of One (Geometric) USA Latest on Damon Wild's Synewave offshoot , Harsh metallic loops that seem to sway in an out of time with the medium paced dry solid percusion , would sit in well with Advent, Surgeon and Blue Spirit releases. Skuff - The Sound Of Skuff (Surreal Sound) USA Jake Smith (Subtropic) moonlights from Reflective with this 4 tracker of haunting electronica , the tempo's are speedy , but the beats are abstract. David Moufang - Cymbelin (Warp WAP80) UK You might know Moufang from his excursions with Pete Namlook , or work as Deep Space Network/Move D , or his as head of the Source label. Street Date 26/8/96 Roupe - "Entelechy E.P." (Resourse 05) UK Sampler for forthcoming album from ex GPR artist , subtle breaks and melodies combine in a multi styled ep that can't be pinned down to one particular sound , brings to mind the way Black Dog twisted rhythm and sound into their own unique vision , swinging from chopped up drum'nbass breaks to abstract hip hop beats , inlcludes mix from GPR artists Germ Street Date - 27/8/96 Number 5 - "The Blitz" (Blue Basique 02) UK Fresh from releases on both Soma (Mode 4) and Damon Wild's Synwave offshoot Geometric(Unit 3), New Yorker Tracey Hudson turns in a 4 tracker full of da funk! , 3 of the cuts are speedy chi - town influenced groovers with repetitive loops , old skool claps , searing hi - hats and butt shaking bass , whilst ""Zoop" is a deep Basic Channel styled deep houser , future collaborations with Damon Wild and Joey Beltram are also imminent. Street Date 28/7/96 DJ Digital - Prototype (Direct Beat 20) USA Butt and speaker shaking electro bass from Detroit , whiplash snares, rumbling bass and future space funk grooves from Aux 88 in house DJ , top track is "Logic" with it's star ships engadged in crossfire vibe.
