You're not wrong. They are the first part of England you see on return from France in that particular direction. From a distance they look like a series of white humps. Close up its just a helluva lot of chalk :) As far as I know there is nothing remotely like the cover of Amber in the UK. God knows what kind of rock this is, or where it is, but you'd be more likely to see that sort of thing on the American continents than in the UK.
