i remember visiting nyc when i was in late highschool (from way upstate ny) and i was at the virgin megastore and there was a listening station with SpringHeelJack and RDJ on the headphones and if i had bought the SpringHeelJack, well, i probably wouldn't be listening to so much electronic music today. (two days later i was taking acid in a sunshine filled room and trying to to dance)... Lunatic Harness was very key for me as well and is still one of my favorite albums of all time. i was one of those desperate kids who bough Prodigy (which i still secretly love) and Chem Brothers and all that shit (imo), ... i felt there was something very special that could happen, but with rollingstone and mtvspringbreak as my musical guides it was not so easy to find this stuff (internet was not yet popular) np: doo-wop on live365 ... represent!

The first time is foggy because I was but a wee raver and my head was clouded with extacy and architecture school...the earliest memorable moment though was seeing and hearing Autechre live in 1994, in NYC, playing music from Amber. It was at Club Vinyl, where Blech was later held. The Vinyl sound system was so amazing, and Amber is an articulate album; it defines and describes spatiality in several different relationships. It's an unparalleled release. That was the ones! i been thinking about this thread for awhile, and i was thinking about first electronic 12" which was LFO - LFO, but yeah, the year leading up to that, some new friends me and my buddy were hanging out with had taken us away in their rangerover up into all these weird and wonderful little scottish back roads, introduced us to bongs and mushrooms [not together, tho we never ruled that out] and listening to ambient music. I recently been listening to Chill Out again, its so amazing, and brings back all those memories of originally hearing it, so vividly. <reminisces... reconsiders...> Actually in saying that, i wouldn't actually consider KLF or the ORb as IDM. In fact i had never heard the term IDM until about 97 or so, and thought it was pretty dumb term, but i guess when something is appropriated for so long it takes on its own meaning. I'll stick with my original LFO answer, as it seems more appropriate. -thor
