Heh, not to be nit-picky, but I think we beat you to it. http://www.phoenixfest.com/lineup.html Lasi played 3 sets at Phoenix Fest in July. One on Thursday night to a crowd of 300, mostly non-IDMers and blew their socks right off. Then on Friday he and Machine Drum played several ambient sets for about 4 or 5 hours and then on Saturday he and Travis did a duo performance for about 90 minutes. Very nifty stuff. You should ask them about it when they are out there. Those two are great together and they are very very nice fellows! :) Chris --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Can I be crass and ask if you really need that many acts playing an event in one night? I've seen this behavior before at IDM events - the panicked "dunno when we'll have another show, so everybody better play" - and it results in the headliner's slot getting fucked up. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Not to mention really short sets with way too much downtime between shows. Impossible to get a vibe going for the night, and most people just wander around listening to the "background music" played between sets :D I personally shy away from shows like this as they usually go well past 2am (if they don't get shut down first). Why would anyone DO that? :D derek ------- eggytoast.com ------- kills germs on contact --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I would not say that this is one of those panic ridden choices. We've thought about this carefully and we're sticking to a set schedule, it starts at 9 and ends at 2. There's 2 rooms plenty of time for everyone to play. We've never shafted anyone's slot and don't plan on doing it this time. We have no problems putting on shows so we're not worried about stuffing the place because we're not sure when it'll happen again, everyone on the bill makes sense for the theme and that's why they're all playing. Putting on idm shows is never easy and while everyone complains that there aren't enough of them it seems like they complain even more about the ones that do happen. Lets just try and support the music for once and not our needs to be negative about everyone and everything. This is the idm list of course so the complaining starts way before the show :-P~~ Adesh http://www.recordcamp.com ------Original Message----- -From: Andrew Hime [mailto:hime@charter.net] -Sent: Monday, August 26, 2002 1:41 PM -To: idm@hyperreal.org -Subject: Re: [idm] DJ/Rupture ,Brothomstates, Machine Drum -live this Sunday NYC - - -> If you're in the city this Sunday you should check out The Triad -> Theatre for performances by Brothom states -> Machine Drum -> Kristuit Salu -> Heat Sensor -> DJ Mutamassik -> DJ Rupture -> Chief Kamachi -> Team Shadetek -> And Danny L - -Can I be crass and ask if you really need that many acts -playing an event in one night? - -I've seen this behavior before at IDM events - the panicked -"dunno when we'll have another show, so everybody better play" -- and it results in the headliner's slot getting fucked up. - - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org -For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org - --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Well, if you have two stages, then things seem a lot better. I'm not entirely innocent myself - at cosuardstock2002 I let Chomsky's set get stepped on quite a bit. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Hey, more power to you for having the show in the first place :D It also sounds like you have a good plan for keeping things going smoothly, which I'm sure the audience and the performers will appreciate. Just saying that a lot of larger performances with tons of people on the list DON'T have such good planning. More people performing usually equals more possible problems. derek ------- eggytoast.com ------- kills germs on contact --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Thanks for the vote of confidence. We're in the audience just like everyone else and chances are that if you go to a show and don't like something, we're right there with you. I can remember an overbooked show a couple of years ago that ended up changing venues right in the middle of the show, I dragged my ass across town in the rain and still didn't see the act that I went to see and on top of that got completely sick for a week. Here's some of the considerations we made in planning the show: 1. Location, while it's uptown it is a theatre which means theatre seating, I love the fact that people can sit back and enjoy the show. I'm personally very lazy and am always looking for a place to sit. 2. Time, the show starts at 9 sharp and ends at 2 sharp! We're also tired of showing up to things and waiting until 2 for something to start. We're kicking this off immediately and if you show up late well, just show up early :-) It's also on a holiday weekend so Monday morning won't be tough. 3. Ages, we specifically picked this venue because it will do 18+, we've never done an 18+ show before but I get a lot of emails from college students that are really interested in coming but can never get past the door. 4. Lineup, The key was to have a hiphop/idm theme but still keep a sense of diversity about it, I think everyone on the bill has something very different to offer while at the same time contributing to the overall picture. 5. Schedule, I hate going to shows where a bunch of people play and you never have any idea as to who they were. We'll be posting a schedule around the venue so that you know who's playing. 6. Drink prices, The triad has very good drink prices so you'll be able to get drunk (if that's your think) without going broke. The Record Camp motto for shows is simply that everyone have a good time and enjoy some good music, very often it's not music that you won't typically get to hear, even in nyc. We're not throwing trance raves here, it's about the music we love and the music that we invest so much time and thought into. I read this list everyday and I always take note of what people say in regards to shows so hopefully ours can be much more pleasant than the ones I hear bad things about. thank you adesh, i was just going to say something along these lines. ie... there really AREN'T enough live shows etc - and most of the time, i hear something like "oh, i sure wish Boards of Canada would tour. And why didn't Mum come to my city?" "man, i hope warp does another tour soon" and then shortly after, it's "man, boards of canada sure are fucking boring live" and "that warp show was piss because people did/didn't dance enough, and they just had laptops, and laptops aren't playing live." next to my father, the IDM-List is the all time superior king of double standards. and for my musical content: that new benge album on expanding is excellent. very tight, clean musics. nicely written melodies, great atmosphere and a good amount of variation/variety to keep it interesting. expanding release yet another great record. well done. jilm acre ----- Original Message ----- From: "Record Camp" <lists@activaire.com> To: "'Andrew Hime'" <hime@charter.net>; <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Monday, August 26, 2002 12:52 PM Subject: RE: [idm] DJ/Rupture ,Brothomstates, Machine Drum live this Sunday NYC
