Thanks for the link. This is actually quite good. If I'm in the mood to hear something other than IDM, this is a good choice. It's certainly not IDM and it's certainly not overly autechre-ish, but it's just good, on its own terms. OK Computer was a great album, though not really my cup of tea...this is another great album, methinks. Oh, as for non-IDM stuff rocking my world lately, has anyone else heard "The Soft Bulletin" by the Flaming Lips? Serious subliminal stuff going on there and, really, just a load of great songs. ---brian ------------------------ Brian W. i read something else in a mag that Thom used to be into early Warp records and after the OK Computer explosion he decided to get hold of the entire back catalogue from the label, his feelings were that although Radiohead were getting the praise for pushing the boundaries....Ae, Aphex et al were actually much more forward-thinking''', i couldn't give a fuck if this album brings more people into contact with those we already know and love - it's just music....and it's not ours # on the Planet Mu tip, looks like all of you wanting and waiting for the Nicole ELmer 12" will be a little disapointed....it will now be a CD only release. wow. this is really an incredible album. while they're not really in undiscovered territory in terms of production, it's still really beautiful. i got the packaging with the book of art and poetry attached to the front, and i have to exchange it because it looks like somebody took a sharpie marker to it to fill in some black spot. weird. i can't say i agree with the way the CD itself is held in the case. while it may look kindof neato, my cd is already a little scratched because of it. bastard form. it should yield to function when it comes to a radiohead album :) a. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I remember before this came out some people thought it would boost the IDM fanbase, but after listening to the album, I think most Radiohead fans will be sobbing into their snakebite and black, cursing the day that Thom Yorke heard of Warp Records. Not to say that it's a bad record - some of it's a bit whiny - 'Ideoteque' has beats that are very Auteche-y, and some of it reminds me of Bogdan Raszynski of all people. Even though I quite like Radiohead and also like weird noise records, I'm not sure about the wisdom of putting the two together. I'll give it a few more listens. vinyl every time. it sounds better, it looks nicer, and if you're an intellectual property nazi, they're much harder to rip into MP3's... the only possible benefit of cd's is convenience and the slight increase in durability. personally i'd rather use minidiscs than cds since they are more portable, come in a very fancy dustproof shell, and therefore more durable. oh yeah and they are re-/recordable anyway watch for minidiscs to replace the aging cassette tape format. josh -- String Theory : Digital Music for Humans http://www.enteract.com/~yoshi/index.cgi On Wed, 4 Oct 2000, rebecca263 wrote:
