I have not been able to take this slab off the platters. This new output from Schematic has taken a different direction from their other 2 more bleepy-bloppy releases. PBO has a hip hop flavor with electro and D&B nuances (but not as hectic). Low-key, slow breaks, almost like Autechre doing trip hop. Very recommended... but that's just my opinion.. I could be wrong ;-) Kev. -- FreyGuy <Everyday is Freyday> Network/Notes Administrator Hansen Corporation *kevfrey@evansville.net kfrey@hansen-motor.com http://www.evansville.net/~kevfrey/ "Step off, I'm doin' the HUMP!" - Digital Underground

pbo is an american named edgar something-or-other...the two 12"s you mentioned above are really all that's available right now...there is/was supposed to be a 7" & lp on skam as well...who knows when/if this will appear. like, but can't find any internet resources on them. anybody know? I don't know his name, but he has put out one single on Schematic and started up the Chocolate Industries label with a guy name Seven (might not be spelled like that). Seven used to work with Schematic but I guess they had a difference of opinion or other plans. I heard a while ago that Push Button Objects was suppose to have a 12" on Skam. But it never happened or didn't get released yet. By the way does anyone have the gescom 12" on Chocolate Industries, i think it's called Inexistant or something like that. cheers _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? pushbutton objects have released stuff on schematic records (schema@gate.net) from florida(home of phonecia, richie devine, jeswa, metic, etc.) and chocalote industries, where they had a gescom remix. It's one guy who's name escapes me atthe moment but he toured with autechre and I hear mainly uses an akai mpc60 and s1000. I am sure someone out ther could say a lot more about him but I just wante dto be the first to look he has a clue about anything. -kid606

just so everybody knows, because i haven't seen it mentioned on the list, PBO has a new track comlete with scratching and everything on the new Deeper Concetration (2) comp. it's been put out by OM records of SF, CA.... so it should be available at a very very low price, easily... the disc has tracks by PBO, beat junkies, ill media, mix master mike, scratch perverts, dj ming, task force, and much more... in the same vein as deep concentration, a littlle bit more structured though... that's not a the dev. unit for a clc 200, that's my pager. -kiya i am a copier. we are not all copiers.

What's up IDM List, Hey, this is Don Thompson. Just wondering if anyone has a good discog of PBO's works. I'm really into it, and I'm tryin to find some of the stuff I don't already have. I do have the Skam 12", Guineo - Tosstones E.P., and the Half Dozen 12". Are there any other big releases that I can get ahold off???? Also, on the topic of zines (Grooves) and info. I think everyone needs to settle down.....I mean....if you want information...take a fucking second to go find it. This is a lot easier then posting a stupid message to cause a stir on the list. I think Grooves is an awesome mag full of tons of info. The work that's done on it alone is worth the $2.50....jesus....just skip a goddamn meal at McDonald's and buy the zine.....people work hard on it.......thanks for listening. --Don -- Don Thompson, Don78@prodigy.net on 08/24/1999 at 3:18:35 PM

I'd just like to voice my thoughts on PBO - I'm getting a similar feeling to what Grant at Rephlex felt with Squarepusher the way it really hits the spot. The Half-Dozen ep is definitely their strongest work to date from what I've heard IMO. What's the release date for the Dirty Dozen CD? Can anyone comment on the exclusive tracks yet from the CD? The ko-wrection EP was good, pretty much what I expected. It has a reasonable amount of flow, not overbearing samples, and the PBO backbeat. Some people think PBO is a little too "static" or somethin'... personally I think his schematic/chocolate industries work is top-notch, more nice dry hip-hop beats than anything else I've heard in recent memory. Throw that SKAM record out, though. BTW PBO also has a compilation (sorta) cd out called "dirty dozen". It has two previously released EP's ("half dozen" and uhm, that one I don't have) plus 2 exclusive tracks. It's a nice album, if you can excuse the gratuitous use of porn frame grabs on the CD insert. later Andrew -| Andrew Schrock | aschrock@cs.brandeis.edu |- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

so WHAT didn't you like about "day"? i just got it and find it rather interesting--nicely downtempo and slightly dubby, but perhaps that's just the difference in our tastes.... btw, just found the mike flowers/cylob 1999/chime remixes. uh, don't really know WHAT to say about this.... maybe i'll think of something after the second listen..... ks --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I just pulled it out to figure out exactly what I don't like about it. It's definitely less chocolate industries and more SKAM. The pieces don't have his traditional hip-hop flow to them, and the melodies (more just melodic interjections) don't help the songs. The beats are fairly weak compared to his other schematic/choc.ind. EPs. It sounds like he tried to get out of the 4/4 hip-hop mold he built for himself by trying to make his beats more abstract (or sumpthin'), but he changed his sound in a way that doesn't particularly turn me on. But listen for yourself, as always YYMV! BTW, What's "dubby" about this album? (not to resurrect the recent "dub" thread :) Andrew -| Andrew Schrock | aschrock@cs.brandeis.edu |- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

maybe "dubby" wasn't the best choice of words; that was just a first impression. i was referring to the general feel of the beats having extra space between them, or being more laid-back and somehow slightly submerged-sounding.... never mind, really, cos i have no idea how to talk about music.... =) this is the first PBO i've heard, and it's definitely lacking in the hip-hop area, but that's OK with me. ks At 04:45 PM 1/22/00 , Andrew Schrock wrote:
