I know this is slightly off-topic, but I know some of you might be interested in this, particularly those interested in the IDM compilation project. I unearthed (it was well hidden! wonder why) a freeware program that does MPEG audio compression and decompression. It's pretty good, too - I was able to squeeze a 30 meg sound file into 3 megs or so and it still sounded impressive. Anyways, I've set up a web page with these samples and the source code. It's at http://www.wired.com/~brian/mpg/ The original 44.1 khtz file, the mpeg audio file, and the uncompressed audio file is there for checking out. I put up 30-second samples from the Blade Runner soundtrack and the Shamen :) Brian

No, this is not idm (not yet :), but I believe that there are several on this list well-versed in the information I'm looking for. Can anyone give me a recommendation for a record presser? We have received a distribution offer, but must produce the vinyl, and I'd like to know if one of you could refer me to a presser with whom you have dealt and liked. I'd also appreciate info such as cost/unit, price breaks, etc, if you can provide it. Thanks. Sami Khoury Orbitrecords btw-Please reply in private, although with the impending idm comp, there may be more widespread interest in this info than I am aware of.
