Well, it was actually an accident that my first post to IDM was blank, but
it really said a LOT about how I feel about the new EAT STATIC Implant LP...
.....speechless.....in awe.......
:)
So, here's my second attempt (*kicks machines*) :
===
Before I start, I'd like to say that PRESSURE OF SPEECH, LOCUST, and the
HIROSHIMA single are all for sale ($15, $7, and $5, respectively).
LPs

EAT STATIC - implant [Planet Dog, bark LP 005]
1. survivors
2. abnormal interference
3. implant
4. dzhopa dream
5. panspermia
6. area 51 (nucleonic mix)
7. cydnoia
8. uforic undulance
This is a double-12" LP. Tracks 1 & 2 are on side one...7 & 8 on side four.
This LP is absolutely ASTOUNDING! ...ULTRASOUNDING! :)
Tracks 1,3,4,7,8 are trance, ranging in BPM from 129 to 138.
Tracks 2,5,6 are slow, ambient-dub ranging from 84 to 99 BPM.
The title track (3) is probably the best. It has a Hardfloor feel to it.
(4) is pretty nice, especially when it gets to the funky beats towards the
end of the song...really awesome! Great for mixing into Dust Bros or the like.
(5) is simply brilliant. It's in 9/8 time. And track (6) ["area 51" --
they stole my idea for a track name!] is pretty nice too.
There's JUST the right amount of samples throughout the LP to have a theme
(which is, of course, aliens). Very apropos for my trance sets!
I'm not going to rate each track individually. Instead, I'm going to give
the LP an overall 9 out of 10, since it's got both trance, and ambient-dub
tracks, all done very well! (9/10)
LOCUST - In Rememberance of Times Past [Apollo 18]
1. Amazon (1985)
2. Backward & Forthwith (1985)
3. Locked in a Cathedral at Night Alone (1984)
4. Neil's Armsong (1987)
5. It's Called Peace (1985)
6. Please Sir (1982)
7. Untitled (1983)
8. Exaggerated Repression (1985)
Tracks 1-4 are on one side, 5-8 on the other.
Well, overall, these "early works" have a very AFX SAWII and Eno feel to them.
(1) has an Enoesque atmosphere, and the SLIGHTLY out of tune synth melodies
give it that SAWII feel. (2) sounds like a beat from Depeche Mode, with some
experimental clanking sounds. (3) is simple, soft and happy. (4) again
reminds me of Eno...this time, a piano. It's quite repititious though.
(5) More experimental clanging to an 80's dance beat, but with a tribal edge.
(6) not much to say...kinda boring. (7) starts out sounding exactly like one
of the tracks off SAWII..well,near exact. But soon a 606-sounding drum machine
comes in, and very active melodies make it much different from SAWII, but not
any better. (8) kinda sticks out on this LP. A wooshing, approaching sound
plays over an over...while some gremlins play with some reverb plates.
I rate the eight tracks in order: (6,2,5,3,5,3,3,4) Average: (4/10)
PRESSURE OF SPEECH - Art of the State (North South, POS 100LP)
1. Reverberations
2. Paralaxx
3. Jah-eli
4. A-Morphic
5. Elone
6. X-on
7. Thomp
8. Surveillance
9. Swarm
10. Creepy People
11. XI-Beats
12. Stand
This is a double-12". Tracks 1-3 are on side one...10-12 on side four.
This is the strangest thing I've heard... Quite experimental.
The drums usually cross between military and industrial-dance sounding.
Side one makes good use of resonant fiters. Track (1) is just a bunch
of voices...sounds kinda like The Excorcist. (7) uses the guitar rift
that's used in "Comin' On" by the Shamen (Boss Drum LP) all throughout
the song...quite annoying! It's different...so if you like different, you
might love this... but I really can't stand it! (3/10)
Singles
=======
AFFIE YUSUF - "Smoke, Strobes & UV" [Inertia, INE 003]
A. Real Essentials
AA. For a Night
Good flowing acid trance!! Elevate your mind, fill your soul, and MOVE
YOUR BODY! (9/10)
THE PRODIGY - No Good (Start the Dance) [XL, XLT 51]
A1. Original Mix
A2. Bad for you mix
AA1. CJ Bollands Museum Mix
I bought this for (AA1). Good CJ Bolland banger with acid. The only thing
I don't like is that it doesn't stay on a plateau for a long enough time..
it stops, builds, stops builds...for short intervals. (7.5/10)
HIROSHIMA - Self Immolation [dream 02]
a. self immolation
b. self mutiliation
Not very good trancer. I hate the WATTS fax. They don't know what the hell
they're talking about...they're inconsistent...
(3/10)
AGAIN: PRESSURE OF SPEECH, LOCUST, and the HIROSHIMA single are all for sale.
($15) ($7) ($5)
