Thanks for the discography. Has anyone got copies or knows of copies of the first five Evo. releases. I saw Reload live at an Intellegent Techno night in London about two months ago. Does anyone know if they will be Djing again anywhere? Because they were awesome. They played a lot of their own stuff as well as some funky Dust Brothers/Mo Wax slow breaks tracks. If they come to a city near you then go. They definitely prooved that you can dance to IT, if its funky. Has anyone else noticed the merging feel wise of the Mo Wax groove stuff with funky abstract techno. I can see some brilliant crossbreads coming soon. James Lavelle of Mo Wax described Lowride by Autechre as being as funky as Kool and the Gang. Thanks Tom E.Mail- T.C.Hill@Sheffield.ac.uk

Well, I've just been clued into this "funky" stuff this past weekend, and it's a coincidence that everyone is mentioning it out of the blue on this list and over on the breaks list even... "IT" :)

What else does Mo Wax put out? Discography online? or anyone have a phone #? Autechre? Funky? Oh man...IDM/breaks/funky all rolled together... I've definitely found another calling...time to put on APL and meditate. :)

yep, check out the new compilation 2lp/cd - 'royalties overdue' nice tunes on , esp the ones by RPM, i'd say. Anyone got the RPM singles? I read an interview with Lavelle in Echoes - interesting stuff - a label 2 watch for sure. On this note - I recommend anyone to buy the Portishead 'numb' [Go Beat] single on sight. I havent got it yet , out next week?, but heard 2 mixes on the radio - Marvellous , in a dubby floaty style not unlike the mo wax stuff. Chris.

I guess Recycle or Die is alive again after being on hold for a while. The new one is called "Rhythm and Irrelevance" by #9 Dream. One of the members of #9 Dream is Helmut Zerlett, who was one of the people involved with the excellent Baked Beans project. Also, at the Montreaux Jazz Festival, the eye-q family is going to show all the purists their vision of improvisation. Ralf Hildenbeutel, Dominic Woosey and Stevie Be Zet all on stage *at the same time* improvising live ambience. After this ambient extravaganza will be live performances from Ambush and Earth Nation. Whoever's going to be there is one of the luckiest people in the world as you get to see the entire eye-q/harthouse/rod family AND see DJ Krush... For those of you that missed Air 2 the first time around, it's being reissued under the Ambient World label. I think this label is not limited and is going to be used to give certain FAX releases a wider audience. or at least that's what it looks like. For anyone who hasn't heard Air 2 (Travelling Without Moving) I highly recommend it. Namlook, who usually spends a day or two on a CD, spent two weeks on this one and it shows. Also qris asked about Create on the FAX label. Create is the new one (on the world label) from Charles Uzzel-Edwards (head of the new FAX USA office) and Pete Namlook. They've also collaborated before under the name A New Consciousness, which was alright. Why the big hype on Mo' Wax in the techno world? They've been around for a long time but have been ignored. DJ Shadow has been around for a long time too, as have La Funk Mob and RPM. All these three seem to be getting some praise in the "techno" world. They even had an article in the NME about "trip-hop" with Mo' Wax stuff and Dust Brothers etc. Both Shadow and La Funk Mob have done plenty of stuff with other people for a long time but I guess now they're considered "real artists" since the critics acknowledge their presence now. Kind of reminds me of possible racism in techno, where people like Dave Angel (check out his excellent Two Sandwiches Short of a Lunchbox single on Apollo) and Tony Thorpe who have always been ignored by the majority of the techno crowd. To check out the real deal on Mo' Wax and some more good music, send mail to gregbb@uhunix.uhcc.hawaii.edu Jonathan eabu751@orion.oac.uci.edu

Very curious, and as Jonathan suggests, something smells really suspect here. Ned Raggett eahg119@rigel.oac.uci.edu

well, they have a good reputation, and some nice stuff crossing over to appeal to techno heads in the way dust bros do... any recent hype will be to promote the recently released 'royalties overdue' complitaion 2lp. I love the rougher stuff in this stlye, like to hear more about it! - Anyone checked out the Portishead 'numb' [go beat] single yet? This is a stunner, cant go wrong. Chris. ps. that mention of eat static's old stuff, that was me that was. I didnt say i knew them or anything, just I know where to get them (or where you could get them at one point - dunno if any left now) in the UK. I thought someone said they knew the US distribution end.... ? I should think you'd have to ask for these specially though..
