The Mo`Wax label strikes me as being pretty impressive. You can`t say "it`s not strictly idm" because it`s not strictly anything! I`ve heard DJ Shadow`s last release in ambient rooms and I definitely mean to play it. I haven`t heard the new release from Le Funk Mob but I`ll probably get it soon. What does everyone else think of Mo`Wax? And what is D.O.P.`s "Electronic Funk" Ep on Guerilla like? Any Good? Stasis` "Circuit Funk" On Peacefrog is wicked, but I`d steer clear of the "Planetary Funk" EPs because they`re anything but... Shawn, what do you think of "Space is the Place" by Sun Ra? I`m thinking of buying it, it`s a toss-up between that, "Interstellar Space" by John Coltrane and the new Ornette Coleman box-set. btw everyone, did you know that "Space Is The Place" by the Irresistible Force takes loads of ideas from the same track by Sun Ra? s`true! Does anyone like Parliament? Brendan Nelson Lost Transmission From Cowley "The bigger the headache, the bigger the pill, and they call me the big pill!"

P-Funk got me into music. My sister bought _Mothership Connection_ when I was about 7 and my world changed. I do believe the current Underground Resistance / Dreciya water obsession is directly attributable to Parliament's _Motor-Booty Affair_ (who else here remembers "Aqua Boogie"?) I'm amazed there's no P-Funk mailing list... ----------------------------------------------------------------- dave walker, detroit art services _ marmoset@msen.com freeke puts the free in freak

I don't know if this is out of place on this list, but I would say that it's pretty easy to say that Mo 'Wax is strictly groove. I don't really think it has anything to do with IDM, but it is impressive. I think DJ Shadow's release was a little bit different than the rest of their output, probably making it the biggest commercial success. Everything else could be categorized as funk/jazz/soul/latin/hip-hop all rolled into an ambiguity called acid jazz. What does everyone think of Locust? The first single was okay, but the album "Weathered Well" and new single "Needle" are a lot better, I think.

actually, Space is the Place by Irrestistible Force and Space Is the Place by Sun Ra sound nothing alike, in factt are pretty opposite, down to the sex of the vocalists (male vs. female) and the feel of the song (full, trippy trance vs. light bop) i actually wonder where the vocals for Irresistible Force's single come from. sampled, i presume, but from where? PS get all the cds ;) Kreig

I LOVE PARLIAMENT AND ALL THE P-FUNK CREW!!! I have several of the records......... (this is in reply to someone who wanted to know, also...) What do you out there think that a fusion of P-Funk and IDM would be? For awhile now, I've been thinking about it, but haven't come to any conclusions....

Also, check out the Jazz-Hip-Jap compilations from Mo'Wax. Difficult to find anything better on the Acid-Jazz level (El Malo, Monday Mishuru... really kick ass!). I was kinda amazed with how good japanese are jazzically, and since I bought those compilations, I have been to a few jazz improvs here in Chicago featuring Japanese artists, and trust me I was not disappointed!
