Got a nice squarepusher 12" from ambient soho - but I'm not exactly sure what it is - it isn't the conmelt EP, it isn't the Alroy reoad tracks, and it has a limited edition pressing of 250. Side one contains 2 wicked fucked up Jungle tracks called I was kind and peace nail, side 2 contains more mellow and non-breakbeaty tracks. Anyone else heard of it? If you see it - worth a lookin. On a similar sort of subject, saw squarepuser "live" at a night out there in London last week - holy shit! This man has a LOT of material! Prepare yourself for a squarepusher aural assault from all directions. His live performance wasn't exactly very live though - looked like he was just mixing from 2 minidisc players! Bizzare night in the extreme - including Richard James not turning up - quelle surprise. Laters, Catweeasel.

has it got a green on yellow sleeve? then it's dragon disc 2. side 1 by tom jenkinson (squarepusher) and side 2 by dunderhead. peace nail is an *outstandingly* nasty track <g> btw, the conumber ep is re-released on monday. should be much easier to get hold of this time. keith duncan == unkind cheat kduncan@enterprise.net

are there any specialty shops that have copies of squarepusher material? i am one of those unhappy types that only has the dj food remix (a staple in my current set). i am looking for anything else (dragon disc 1, dragon disc 2, etc). thank you. damian / dieselboy avoid the five deadly venoms :: centipede, lizard, toad, scorpion, snake

I know people on this list are probably already sick of hearing about this guy, but I just got the flexistensialism comp (ninja tune) and it seems like he lives up to the hype..... his DJ FOOD remix is great.... basically, if you're looking for a breath of fresh air with the drum & bass this is your man... this whole comp is amazing and comes highly reccomended...

I agree with this comment. Aaron is just right about his mentioning this track doesn't have the magic of "Scratch Yer Hed" remix (Am I right referring to this trak?), but I simply liked this track. I haven't got his 12" from warp or his album yet, but I'm sure I'll get 'em very soon here in Tokyo. I am also looking forward to getting my copy of Mike Flower Pops' "Freebase" remixes, which I heard is scheduled in July.

WAVE-format files would be much appreciated, for folks like me behind firewalls who cannot get RealAudio. How about samples from the rarer 12"s? Can't find that Conumber 12" anywhere... *sigh*. Thanks. BTW, "Feed Me..." is funky in parts, but it's perplexing to hear someone thinks it's actually as complex as Tango n Vectif. Because I only found around four or so tracks really captivating (as opposed to almost the entire albums of Orbital 2 or TnV when I first got them), I keep having to suppress violent knee-jerk reactions when I read about Squarepusher topping u-Ziq in some department, like in the melodies. I just don't think so. Does this just mean I haven't "gotten" Squarepusher yet? Maybe. Plus when Jenkinson strays from the jazzy jungle style, it's rather dull - like when he's "influenced" by Aphex in some of the tracks. I could have loved an album full of tracks like "Squarepusher Theme" or "Theme from Ernest Borgnine". On now: The Black Dog: Otaku James Jung-Hoon Seo // Oracle New Media (415) 506-3829 // jseo@us.oracle.com You always use violence. I should've ordered glutinous rice chicken.

Funny cos I think "Ernest Borgnine" is quite aphexy in a way. It doesn't sound lke anything RDJs done, yet it sounds kinda like him - if someone had told me this was the the new aphex I would have believed them, due to the amount of times he's (afx) done things that didn't sound like what he did before. This is in no way a criticism, like I say it doesn't sound like afx as such, and thus far it's my most favouritest track on the album :) J ^ __________ ________.__/_____ _||_/ James Skilton aka Steady J _[]/_____________[.__\____-_ DJ and Party Animal | | Part Time Hedonist |____________________________| Full Time Technohead |__|-' '-|__| Steady-J@Firefox.co.uk

Okay, it's about time people knew the truth. Tom Jenkinson is just a bass playing jazz musician whom the Rephlex boys met in a pub (there's some truth to the bio on "Feed me weird things") about a year ago. Richard and Tom devised a plan to flood the stores with releases, and create a mass spread of hype about the alleged talent of this so-called Tom Jenkinson, a classically trained bass player who has never touched a 303 let alone sequenced all those wicked breaks. The truth is, Squarepusher is simply a collaboration between Tom and Rich...with Rich doing all the machine music, while Tom occationally jams on bass to a few tracks. This easily explains why Rich has been out of the scene for a bit. Ya, right. ^^^^^^^^^ (Originally I'd intended to leave that out, but i know there's somebody out there who might actually believe I'm serious, and give me hell. I've got a bit of a sense of humour tonight though...and come on, the theory sort of works!) He hinted once in an interview that he was actually doing all of the Rephlex stuff...it was all him. The artists who represent the projects are simply friends standing in for him. Mind you, I've never been to the live shows, and presumeably people like ?-ziq and squarepusher evidently play live sets. Oh, and Vibert was also a RDJ pseudonym. What a load eh? Oh my God! Wow! Squarepusher has finally landed in my hands and damn! am I happy! I'm not sure who Smedley is but he's got a great melody. Love track 4. Picked up the Feed Me Weird Things cd last night at Winnipeg's newest music store, House of Coldcuts. It was the only disc I bought without listening to it first. What a surprise when I got home. Actually one of the nicest things about this disc is that I'll be able to play it for my dad (an avowed jazz fan) and he'll love it. I tried with Plug's Drum and Bass for Papa, but he had the same sentiments as I did: too boring. Also grabbed my first Fax Label release: Elktro. Very enjoyable. Very different than I thought it would be even after skipping through it at the store. (Does that make sense? Its true.) There'll be more Fax purchases in my future. COuld you kind folks send me mail of what you think are the top 5 Fax releases? I'd be forever indebted. Also grabbed Blechsdottir, Single Cell Orch., and from Montreal David Kristian. This is a great atmospheric release....few beats. I would recommend checking this guy out: David Kristian Synaesthesia c1994 discreet music cat no. creet 001 1. Skylark One 2. Aurora 18 3. Inside Frost 4. Central Daylight 5. Pyrex 6. Isochora 7. Latch II 8. Luau He has a new single and album out soon. I'm not 100% sure of details so I won't continue. Dave. PS. Parents gone for three weeks and nothing to do but listen to Squarepusher at high volumes and extra bass. :) elling them on IDM, could people send me there top 5 favourite Fax releases

just a "warning": "Elektro" is very enjoyable (and it is in no way "Electro"), but it is very misrepresentative of 90% of the FAX label output, so be carefule using it as an initial datapoint. FAX makes some great stuff, but most of it has nowhere near the pounding beat content of Gorl's EBM tinted duo with Namlook. FAX is known primarily as the premier "ambient" label, and most of the stuff is much more "soothing", due to the fact that most of the collaborator's don't have industial music roots. although, not all the output is great, most of it is good, and the odds are almost in your favor to play "German Roullette" in the FAX bin. nonetheless, my top 5 would be: Weschelspannung Alien Community I+II A Day In The Park Namlook 10: Monolith Xandadix I+II enjoy, and i hope your savings account is flush...... Not to bag on Franz's offer, but I'd say that the asked for exchange is a bit lop-sided, IMHO. You might be able to trade TWO copies of the Rumble 12" plus 10 bucks for any ONE of the spymania or worm interface 12"s. As for a copy of the Stereotype ep, the number might go up to 10 copies of Rumble and $20? It's not that good, it's not that rare and in case anyone hasn't heard it, it's not jungle. It's the 'pusher doing hardcore. This one's ONLY for serious Tom J collectors... word, brock np: v/a - Electric Lazyland IV ps: Sorry franz, but I'm just being a bit silly because you busted my balls a while back about the Gil Gershman thing. :-P pps: Do yourself a favor and go buy a copy of 'Burningn'n Tree' instead.

1) Rarity is overrated. I've been getting pissed with how things seem to get out of control when something is rare. 2) Who says that anything Squarepusher has done is Jungle? it's kindof junglish but it's not jungle, as defined by the genre. and Rumble isn't hardcore either. It's acid. I think if someone wants Rumble EP it's a worthy trade :) __ __\ \ / /_\ \ \_____/ www.freq-div.home.ml.org

More like the pusher doing acid!...i cant say i listen to it much... but it aint hardcore! btw Hardy Spymania still has copies of the now ultra rare 'Stereotype' EP which was the first thing Tom J ever did <C.H.Finn@bton.ac.uk> If enough of you buy one then there may be another spymania record yet! Squarepusher gossip.. his next rephlex single is a 'big loada' style remix of some oldschool pusher techno a la 'Stereotype'.... i think theres a possibility that Rephlex are gonna release an lp of old school pusher too....... This is going to run rather contrary to most people's opinions, at a guess, but what the hell. It is an honest request for info, not flame bait. Uh, anyway, a friend lent me 'Music is Rotted One Note' the other day and I really like it. I was particularly baffled by people's complaints that it was lacking form. I should've figured that I would like it, given I didn't like any of his earlier stuff, and most of his fans started slagging him around this release, but, well, it doesn't always work like that does it? :) Anyway, I was wondering what the two subsequent EPs were like in comparison to 'Music..'. Please fill me in, folks. I think I heard one track from 'Vital Priest' (?) which sounded pretty dire.. loud organ sounds and lots of crashing and bashing. I don't remember there sounding like a strong live element. Please fill me in, one and all. Let me give my opinion on this. I love the stuff Tom made before "Music...". I have most of it and it hits the spot at maximum for me. Then I ordered "Music.." without even listening to it and... got upset as hell. It was different music. Live jazz improvisation with slight tint of old Tom in a couple of tracks. I was desperate. I thought I lost him and would have to forget his name. When, in the beginning of 1999 I heard short realaudio clips of his next EP - "Budokhan MIndphone" I was under impression that it is similar to "Music..." and decided to forget about it. Luckily, my friend, who's much bigger fan of Tom and who likes "Music..." as well as many people on this list do (we found it out during endless flames hitting list recently) introduced me to "Maximum Priest EP". I gotta say it is exceptional! It's lovely, it's amazing and rocking! And now I like "Budokhan MIndphone" also. For me it is like he had some artistic problems and "Music..." was his transitional work before the birth of new Tom. As for your tastes I think you should listen to it before buying, as in "Maximum Priest EP" he finally made what he was trying to do - introduce live jazz improvisations into his old style. Which he did in exceptional way. But those who like "Music..." definetly might not like his last stuff. Hail to Squarepusher and I am longing for Selection Sixteen.... Bandwidth wasted. OK. Status cleared. Alien P.S. Forgot to mention that I, personally, would buy "Maximum Priest EP" anyway because of Ae track. 8)

Just for the record, I adore Ae and love all they've done so far. Remixes are not the best of what they do but I like and collect them as well. This track is not their best but it has their touch and that's enough for me to love it. I like it not only because it was made by them but because i hear their approach to music in it and that's what makes me crazy every time I hear Ae. You can call it fanatism but it is true: I am Ae fanatic. Alien np. Severed heads mp3s

Definitely. That remix does nothing, and it does nothing for me. I like the screaming track more, even. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

'Music...' I found pretty hard to get into, mainly because I wasn't expecting it to sound how it did. There's a couple of tracks on it which are instantly likeable (that first one and my sound), but the other were such a shift in what Tom had been doing it took quite a while to adjust. Thesedays, I still don't rate 'Music..' that highly, its a bit to unstructured and messy in places, but its still ok. Budakahn Mindphone however has *really* grown on me - I think it's very nearly the best thing Toms ever done. I'd give Iambic 5 Poetry equal first place alongside his other stuff from bigLoada and feedMeWeirdThings. I can't put in to words how much I love that track. Eddie
