Wow. Just looking at the excellent SAWII LP packaging last night. Lo and behold inside near the fold of the gatefold I found four Aphex Logo Stickers!! Has anybody else got these?? They're glossy black and white and the exact negative of my scan on the techno.stanford.edu ftp site (quick plug). I'm hoping this is like a Golden Ticket from Charlie and the chocolate Factory; I'm about to get a free trip round the Aphex Studio!! Heh heh heh. :) greg 3 0 3

I haven't. All my brown vinyl SAW2 contains is the three records and a 12" card with the credits. :-( Cosmic

Hey, I got them as well....!!! I've just got into University after buying SAWII (at 9am!!), so I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. But I saw your mail, examined the packaging and **YES** four little stickers.... Perhaps it's a special 'North of England' type deal!!??? john.. -- .ATARI.st.CASIO.ht700.KORG.ex800.OSC.oscar.POWERTRAN.transcendent2000. .ROLAND.sh2.tr606.cr8000.SCI.sixtrak.YAMAHA.dx7ii.pf10. solo ContinuousEvolution with i.s.gibson: quanta/flex

Actually, sorry to disappoint you, Greg, but I was mistaken. My copy does have the stickers, too, so yours is nothing special. And since they're on a cd-booklet sized piece of paper, I'd assume the CD's do, too.... Anyway, now to the important bit..... It's actually quite easy to tell which track belongs to which picture (on the WARPLP21LTD, at least), once you figure out what it all means. If you want to solve the puzzle for yourself, read no further. If you just want to know the answer, an explanation is at the bottom of this message.... (After this page of dashes, there follows the answer) Cosmic - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Ok. First proviso. This applies to the vinyl edition only. I haven't seen the CD edition, so someone else will have to describe that. Second proviso. I'm working from WARP LP21LTD, the limited edition brown vinyl version. Since the packaging actually has WARP LP21LTD printed on it, I can't be sure that the packaging for the ordinary WARP LP21 isn't different. These notes will probably make more sense if you read them with the records and gatefold pack in front of you.... Ok. First of all, you have three records, six sides (A-F) and you have to decide which order they go in. One solution is to look at the matrix numbers. However, all the sides are colour coded, and you can use the key on the back of the gatefold pack to order them. The key reads in obvious order, ie A B C D E F Note however, that on my copy at least, the colours used on the packaging aren't a particularly good match to the colours used to print the labels, so it's slightly confusing. Ok, now to identify the tracks. Actually, there's quite a lot of redundancy, so there are several different ways of identifying a track. Each track, as we all know, is identified by a picture. The label of each side is a pie chart, with each segment corresponding to one track on that side, and the size of each segment is proportional to the length of the track. The key to understanding the pie charts is to realize that the read clockwise, starting from 12 o'clock. Ok, method 1: Look at the back of the gatefold pack, which has a key consisting of six diagramtic pie charts. Identify the pie chart that corresponds to the record (by colour, or by matrix number). Now take the record, and orient it so that it's the same way up as the diagram. Ok, now read the record label clockwise starting from 12 o'clock, and it gives you the tracks. Method 2: This is the one I like, because it just uses the label, you don't need the gatefold packaging at all. Take any record, and choose one of the pictures on it. Imagine you want to work out which track corresponds to that picture. All you do is orient the record so the picture of choice starts at 12 o'clock. (That is, the lefthand edge of the picture will be at 12 o'clock, and the right hand edge will be somewhere in the region of 2 o'clock to 4 o'clock....) Now look at the little diagramtic pie in the corner of the picture, and you'll see a copy of the diagram exactly as it appears on the back of the gatefold, but with the track of choice highlighted! Method 3: This one works just using the pictures that appear on the inside of the gatefold; you don't need the records. You can match up the sides using the colours; it goes: A | D | B | E | C | F Now each picture is anotated with a canonical pie chart of that side (reading clockwise from 12 o'clock) with the relevent pie slice highlighted. Ok, so now we all know which picture corresponds to which choon, all we need to do is describe all the pictures. Cosmic
