video aside, i was so not impressed by the track. ON sounded like it
could have been put out a year ago, and maybe even earlier. i find
that the twin doesn't develop his musical ideas very much/very well.
his music, take analogue bubblebath 3 for example, comes off as a
series of loops which he repeats for a while without much variation
...
more highly of him than they should. he is suddenly getting this
mystique, this reputation for being innovative when he really isn't
all that.

I agree. I realize that we'll both probably be flamed left and
right for having this viewpoint, and I realize that this list was
pretty much started for Aphex Twin's music, but I can't really get
into his music as much because it seems to me that I can make music
like that in a matter of a couple hours. It sounds impressive that
he has 1500 unreleased tracks, but I would rather wait 6 months for a
new album and have him spend the entire six months on it, than have
him crank out 30 tracks of mediocre stuff in a day. Everyone on this
list talks about him like he's some kind of god, but the fact is, I
could make a track just like Analogue Bubblebath III without even
using a sequencer. All he did was take some analogue noise loops and
run them through a helluvalot of reverb. I have samples for Ensoniq
ASR-10 that sound just like the noise he uses. You could play that
song, or something so similar you wouldn't know the difference, with
one hand basically. I don't hate Aphex Twin, some of his stuff is
really good, but I don't see where someone deserves a god-like status
for punching some rhythms into a sequencer for 15 minutes, mastering
it to DAT, and pressing a bunch of vinyl. Just my opinion, don't
take any of this personally.
