He still keeps an apartment here, though how much time he spends in it I couldn't say (after a busted party here last summer, several dozen lucky people got to dance till dawn in Derrick's courtyard -- the DJ's set up on his roof!) | Dave Walker, Detroit Art Services (DAS) | | | | marmoset@msen.com Sig under demolition (condemned) |

I bought a dodgy best of techno comp. the other day, because it had Strings of Life by Rythim is Rythim on it. Is there a Derrick May discography anywhere ? Strings of Life just blew me away. Sadly the rest of the compilation is stuff that's not that great : lots of beats and simplistic keyboard lines and not as rich as, for example, TEEX 3 . There a couple of Model 500 tracks which are pretty good. Tom

Can anyone recommend some Derrick May on CD? I don't have anything by him, but I very much like the System 7 tracks on which he collaborated (esp. the funk rhythms in "Listen" and "Altitude") and would like to hear more. Any help would be much appreciated.... Neil Hetrick nh6957@wcuvax1.wcu.edu on now: Autechre _Garbage_ EP

The only CD that I know of that's still in print is the Transmat/Buzz compilation 'Relics' (BE CD: BZZ CD 106106), which has nine tracks by Derrick under various names (one of them a collaboration with Carl Craig), in addition to tracks by several other Detroit artists. The spotlight is mostly on Derrick - after all, Transmat is his label and all. Also be on the lookout for 'Innovator,' on Network UK (NWKCD21), which is all Derrick, but is out of print. I would imagine that Record Time or one of the other Detroit shops can get you 'Relics,' if you can't get it locally. C. -- cspot@hyperreal.com (Chris.Hilker) "I feel like I'm being electrocuted."
