New Enigma
I just picked up the new Enigma album called Cross of Changes today, and so far it is great. I'm listening to it right now, but I've only gotten to track 6 so I'll post a full review later. Just a few comments to begin with, it's much more melodic and demonstrates a much better composition skill than their first one. Curly is great at combining classical sounds (choir, orchestra, vocals) with deep beats and ambient noise to create a unique tapestry. The first album was very predictable, simply because they used pretty much all of the same sounds in their songs. This one is very different in that aspect. There's a lot of variety. You'll still hear the occasional classic Enigma sound, but it's not near as repetitive. So far, I give it a 9/10. More info later... DJ Luke

eep.. i thought it basically sucked. i *like* the first one - you call it repeptitive, but i like it because it sets a consistent mood. light the candles, burn some incense, slap MCMXC AD on the player and away you go. this new one is all over the place with a few horrendous bon jovi-esque "power ballads" thrown in for extra vomit-inducing effect. any time Cretu open his yob it's all over as far as I'm concerned. i was also really cheesed off at how blatantly they sampled and reused "the calling" by APL for track 8. ok, they credited APL and probably are paying generously but still, it bugs me. especially as the APL track is so godlike. there *are* a few good pieces, don't get me wrong, but the ratio is pretty disheartening. i'd give it a 3/10. color me VERY disappointed. The enigma album is okay if thats what youre in the mood for. Personally, i did not think they tried too hard to vary their work much from the first disc...there were vocals on this disc...but in my humble opinion, they were a huge mistake...there were also random samples and stylings that sounded strangely like Deep Forest...which is not so horribly odd in this industry...but it was a huge disappointment...they still are relying on canned beats...the easily recognizable type similar to the overly repetitive kind on the first album. if you are looking for music that will not be noticed, i would reccomend its purchase...but if you seek innovation...look elsewhere... jasonosaj.

Sandra a mistake? My god, boy! Not only is her voice beautiful, she's also gorgeous! Though, a couple of girls I know say she sounds TOO feminine. The one thing that bugs me about Enigma is the constant use of that shakuhachi SAMPLE...when it should be the real thing. See, when the sample is played higher, the volume peak at the end comes quicker...that's how I can tell it's a sample. But, it can be played this way too, I suppose...though it's an sample/instrument used TOO much. What language is that in the album? Like in track 2 "The Eyes of Truth"? Almost sounds Japanese? -djkc
