GOD WITHIN muttered something about... [...] :: i was just surprised at how down to earth some of the people who make ::this music are. i find it kind of interesting in that most of the musicians i ::have met are so cool while some of the DJs i have met (most, actually) are ::kind of assholes. the most interesting paradox is that the DJs who are basically ::unknowns, locals, tend to have more attitude than even the biggest name DJs. ::i can't figure it out. I've noticed a lot of this here in Milwaukee, the dj attitude, that is. I think it comes from trying *so* fucking hard to be a rave superstar, whatever that is. It's one of the reasons I've given up on raves as a form of meeting new people, but hey, that's fodder for mw-raves, not here. As for the musicians who *REALLY* make the music (read not the dj's) I haven't met anyone yet who has anything out there in release land. But I've heard nothing but good things about these people, even Moby. Some friends here in Milwaukee met Moby at an after-hours after Ascension last spring and said he was actually very nice. But I've heard just the opposite from some people, but this could be because of Moby becoming so dreadfully popular and his style changing somewhat (re: the whole 'using a guitar on-stage' thing). BTW, I'm back on the IDM list. =) e x t r a p o l a t e steve j. white _____________________________________________________________________________ Gort, klatu barada nicto. aragorn@csd4.csd.uwm.edu

Well I met and had a chat with the guy when he toured the UK with 808 State. Actually it was probably me showing him some alt.rave postings that got him more interested in the Internet. And we all know how successful that was ;) Anyways, he was a really nice guy... he did moan a bit 'cos his personal equipment had been lost somewhere on the travels, and that meant he couldn't trash anything on stage. But there was no sign of the dreaded attitude. Speaking as someone who's radiated more than a little unwarranted attitude in his time, I suspect that one big cause of this is Fear Of Being Found Out. -- Lazlo (lazlo@unm.edu)

In a couple of articles, Moby says how he is sometimes testy for the sake of it...to push the limits of certain situations. Argue on purpose for the sake of a good healthy debate, I guess... He loves to communicate; he says he's always gotta have someone around to talk to... Maybe he's like his music (or how he describes his music): All or several emotions entangled into one...love, hate, happiness, sadness, etc. all rolled up into one. Or maybe he's just schizo! :) (just kidding) laytah, -djkc p.s.- anyone seen "Next is the E (synthe mix)" video? Is that girl Moby's SO?

A club in Houston called #'s (numbers) has the video. While in Austin this weekend, I saw a Sven Vath videotape at Tower Records. It had "L'Esperanza" and some other track on it. Promo only! Also saw a Mitsou vidtape, but they were out! Darn...she's so fine. The guy wouldn't sell me the store copy..
