the problem is - the original poster was asking about getting free
records. record pools cost money. usually a LOT of money. but they
don't rank you, as you suggest above. you just pay your money and
then you get to go down to the pool and paw through the latest slew of
horrible promo 12"s and take what you want. advantages: lots of
records in one place and you can help yourself. disadvantages: the
records suck. if you're hoping to get promos from anything other than
major labels, forget it!
oh, there is one more advantage - sometimes the major label promos are
strange and wonderful things that never see general release. special
promo-only mixes, songs that get pulled before seeing normal
distribution... but it takes a LONG time and a lot of patience to
find the gems amongst the 1000s of crap Paula Abdul singles...
