My 12" copy of On (the #1 part) has a problem with the track 73 yips. Like why does it skip everywhere I put the needle down yet appear to be scratchless? This sounds like the crosshatching I have heard about. If anyone has had similar problems please let me know. Thanks, Stewart

My copy of ON is on CD, but I did have that problem with the inner track, paper side of my Joyrex J9EP (Not the picture disk, the cardboard box with the pop rocks in it..) I had assumed it was crosshatching...

Just sounds like another bad Warp pressing. I dont have as serious a problem, but my D-Scape has some nasty pops on it. yuck. :flu'id (floo'-)

i don't have the track, but try putting some more weight on your needle.. if you don't have 1200s just tape a penny or a dime onto the top of your needle and that might be enough weight..

It does the same for me but is easily solved by adding more weight or messing around with the anti-skate. I think the problem is more due to a poorly aligned/weighted/worn stylus than the actual vinyl. The first copies I got of On and On remixes (on 12") were both badly scratched. The replacements were better, but still not perfect. I've got other Warp releases (mainly the AI albums) and those pressings are generally pretty good.... What's going on here....? Cosmic

Actually, more specifically, my copy of On had a pressing flaw. But my copy of On Remixes was badly scratched, and the cardboard sleave (there was no polythene inner sleeve) contained some grit, which accounts for the scratching. TeeP just mailed me and recounted the same experience re grit in On Remixes. What's going on at Warp....? Cosmic

I have no scratches, but the first track on the second (non-aphex logo) side of my On remixes there are a few nasty dropouts in the first 10 sec. or so. I super-cleansed it in case it was finger-oil or whatnot... oh well -- M. On the last track of the cd version of Madreporic Plate there's this weird little burst of static at the very end that really sounds like a mistake to me. I mixed it in with some other music and it sounds just like I let the cd go into the next track a second before I stopped it. [fletcher]

These bursts of static, crackles, and random noise are not uncommon. It seems RJ only records a song once and that tape ususally travels to all his friends and numerous other places being chomped by tape players all the way and then finally, is used to master the track. Its almost become his trademark. <o=--- _/L____ / <(#)> \===| flu'id (floo'-) __/__________\__ / ______ \ /_____/ AFX \_____\ f l u i d \ \ \________/ / / \__\/ \/__/ brit@chopin.udel.edu
