Acid Jazz comps
A good acid jazz comp (the only one i've got so far) is 'House of Acid Jazz', volume 1, put out by Astralwerks, on Caroline. Its got 12 tracks by all sorts of artists, and each one has their own unique flavor of acid jazz/house. It's by far the best comp I've heard, although I don't listen to many (I'm VERY skeptical of comps, after hearing a lot of generic bland 'techno' comps from various friends). So I would highly recommend this collection to anyone looking to get a feel for what acid jazz is all about. -- ccastge@prism.gatech.edu | Q: Who makes crop circles? a.k.a., Guy Elden Jr. | A: The KLF. Good acid jazz comps (non US) are: Totally Wired 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 & 9. They're basically good all of them (1-10), but those are probably my all time favourites. And then there's the Best of Acid Jazz comps 1 & 2 (also from the label Acid Jazz), which stand out. Talkin' Loud has put out three compilations called "The Rebirth of Cool", which have a more hip hop type of feel to them (there's also jazz funk, street soul, etc. on them). But the one to look out for now is the Mo' Wax compilation (the name of which escapes me now). It's more jazz than acid, but boy, is it a good one. And I would be a fool not to mention the new album by UFO that came out about three weeks ago on Talking Loud. An excellent mix of acid jazz, latin influnces and hip hop rhythms. jazzin, samu -- "I go to a jazz club first of all to hear the music and second - and this is an imporant thing - to dig the people. People at jazz clubs are the funniest." - UFO, 'Loud Minority'
