Don't think the comment was that IDM is too quiet - just that nobody was talking... I think that IDM can cover everything from soundscapes to breakbeat techno - if you consider Black Dog & Plaid to be pioneers of the genre then look at just how varied their output has been over the years. <http://www.last.fm/music/Television+Overdose/Seven7Seven> <http://rapidshare.com/files/243532059/Television_Overdose.zip> On 30 Jul 2009, at 09:38, Beki wrote:

i think idmers tend to glom onto certain artists regardless of genre, we hear some house artist who has some kind of glitchy/dubby/weird new sound, and we all decide, more or less totally by coincidence that guy is idm :) sort of how idm music itself borrows from every genre, as fans we sort of borrow artists from every genre into our 'idm' scene, soon they find themselves surrounded/assimilated as their entire fanbase becomes idm-heads Clint Anderson System Administrator On Thu, Jul 30, 2009 at 10:08 AM, Corey Kazaks <cakazaks@hotmail.com> wrote:

Do you have the latest one then? Is it better than anything he's done since Play, or is everyone that's saying that full of sh*t? I mean, even Play was not particularly good, but it had its moments (i.e., on the tracks where he was NOT doing what some might confuse with singing) (I'm not one that buys artists I deplore) On Fri, Jul 31, 2009 at 2:35 PM, Mantrakid <mantrakid@neferiu.com> wrote:

Yeah I was being completely sarcastic - I hate moby with all my core, even Play was shite to me despite its critical acclaim. Should have been called "car commercials" or something. I've not heard any Moby since that just because i cant stand the guy, he looks like a penis with glasses. I hate the way he talks, I hate how awkwardly entitled he sounds in interviews. I hate that he has no chin. Then he came out with this new album and I was curious. I heard people saying good things, so I just had to go out and buy it (ed. find it on rapidshare). I have to admit, there are a couple tracks I like - they have a bit of a orchestral feel to them. BUt there are some tracks, like what you are describing with the 'singing'. He again tries to sing on this and it causes my deep down rage to bubble back up to the surface. I just don't get why this guy is such a 'darling', im single-handedly using him as the scapegoat for killing any chance of electronic music in the mainstream. Its not a fair accusation, nor do I even have proper grounds for such an accusation. But it's what I believe. To be honest, I like to think of it as being as much about dance music that's got a contemplative / introspective side to it as being about people who set out to make something in the IDM genre and can't be classified as anything else. To which end, I'm currently rather liking Silkie's debut album - deep dubstep with a lot of the atmosphere of classic detroit techno or early IDM. Very nice. d. ________________________________ From: Clint Anderson [mailto:clinta@gmail.com] Sent: Thu 30/07/2009 16:40 To: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: [idm] too quiet i think idmers tend to glom onto certain artists regardless of genre, we hear some house artist who has some kind of glitchy/dubby/weird new sound, and we all decide, more or less totally by coincidence that guy is idm :) sort of how idm music itself borrows from every genre, as fans we sort of borrow artists from every genre into our 'idm' scene, soon they find themselves surrounded/assimilated as their entire fanbase becomes idm-heads Clint Anderson System Administrator On Thu, Jul 30, 2009 at 10:08 AM, Corey Kazaks <cakazaks@hotmail.com> wrote:
