I think the main theme from Carpenter's Escape from New York is still amazing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cUiuaWFr2E It's got a great tension and well it probably is a cornerstone of a futuristic sound with which most of us grew up; it actually shaped our imaginary more than we can consciously acknowledge.
