Alright folks, it's on! It's shaping up to be a big night...there's a definitel buzz in the air and almost everyone I've talked to is coming out! Here are a couple things you need to know: 1 - Fuck this rain! The Endup will have out heatlamps and two big tents on the patio to keep you warm and dry. That's right, hang out outside on the patio, chat, smoke, do yo' thang, whatever. DRY. :) 2 - We are excited to announce the addition of a special surprise guest to the bill! Joining us will be none other that KOMPAKT's Tobias Thomas, all the way from Cologne, Germany. He'll be playing right after Donnacha, so stick around for some of that pretty Cologne techno to take you into the morning hours. So, enough chatter.... let's do this! Saturday, February 2nd, 2008 [ K O N T R O L ] minimal techno + avant-house every 1st Saturday @ The Endup featuring from Dublin, Ireland in an exclusive North American appearance: DONNACHA COSTELLO *2 hour extended live pa* (minimise . kompakt . force inc . mille plateaux) "Well...that's enough. Fuck it." To anyone paying attention, those words will instantly bring to mind one of the most unique and memorable techno tracks of last year. The man behind it is Dublin's Donnacha Costello, who has been producing for over a decade but really came into the international spotlight in 2004 with the release of his acclaimed "Colorseries", a monthly sequence of 10 color- coded EP's created using entirely analog gear and released on his own Minimise label. Influenced by minimal pioneers like Mike Ink, Plastikman, and Basic Channel, Donnacha creates warm, dubby techno that intoxicates the mind as it compels the body to move. After witnessing his stirring live PA at the 2006 DEMF, we knew we needed to bring him out to SF, but in the nearly two years since, he's been nowhere near these parts. Tired of waiting, this month we've finally decided to say "fuck it" ourselves and fly him over for an exclusive North American appearance you definitely won't want to miss. plus special SURPRISE guest from Cologne, Germany: TOBIAS THOMAS (kompakt) and the [KONTROL] residents: ==> SAMMY D classic . utensil . dirtybird . magnificent 7 ==> CRAIG KUNA platform . esdjco ==> ALLAND BYALLO nightlight music . auralism . leibe*detail ==> NIKOLA BAYTALA s.w.a.t . robsoul . junior boys own ____________________________________________________ The ENDUP 401 6th St @ Harrison, SF 10pm - 6am / 21+ / $15 http://www.theendup.com FREE until 11pm! ____________________________________________________ full bios, pics and FREE music: http://www.kontrolsf.com [KONTROL] on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/kontrolsf February flyer front: http://www.kontrolsf.com/K32/K32FB.jpg February flyer back: http://www.kontrolsf.com/K32/K32BB.jpg February poster: http://www.kontrolsf.com/K32/K32P.jpg ____________________________________________________ DONNACHA COSTELLO is many things to many people. In the past he has been: Child, Brother, Pianist, Teenager, Guitarist, Student, Techno Musician, Philosopher, Expatriate, Label Owner, Audio Engineer, Bereaved, Ambient Musician, Visual Artist, Techno Musician, University Lecturer, Composer for Film, Experimental Musician, Techno Musician, Husband. He has been releasing records since 1996 and his talent has long been recognized by those in the know including Johnny Marr (Ex-Smiths) and Richie Hawtin. The list of DJs who support his work reads like a Who's Who of techno, many of whom have licensed his work for their mix CDs, most recently including Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano, Magda, Tiefschwarz and Josh Wink. As a live performer, and more recently as a DJ, Costello regularly performs around the globe from Europe to the U.S. to Japan and runs his renowned 'MINIMISE' record label from his hometown of Dublin. ____________________________________________________ About Donnacha's recently re-issued "Colorseries": The Colorseries was a series of ten records released in rapid succession by Donnacha Costello in 2004 and marked the breakthrough point in his career. The collection is special in that these records were produced solely with analog equipment, without a computer in sight. The hand crafted coherence of the music made and speed of the release process marked the series almost as a stream of consciousness, with each color embodying a different chapter, mood and season, with all elements inextricably linked to one another in far more than just name. Throughout 2004, the Colorseries consistently appeared in the charts of big name DJs and eventually appeared in end of year top ten lists in many publications including The Wire and The New York Times. In the intervening years, Donnacha has scored a number of hit releases, including last year's unstoppable "6.6", and has broadened his fan base considerably. The Colorseries CD will therefore appeal to those who were not around for the original releases, those who have discovered Donnacha's work through artist mixes or through witnessing one of his famed live appearances. Minimise is proud to present these tracks on CD for the first time, offering the full-spectrum sound-rainbow for your listening pleasure. Colorseries influences include: Farley Jackmaster Funk, Steve Silk Hurley, Inner City, 808 State, Plastikman, F.U.S.E., Aphex Twin, The Black Dog, Lobe, LFO, Maurizio, Basic Channel, Model 500, Baby Ford, Mike Ink, The Modernist, Studio One, Thomas Brinkmann.
