Mail-order only, it would seem. I don't know, I can't imagine it's worth the $51.23 plus shipping just for a disc of alternative versions that didn't make the cut! Are they being greedy, or is it just the crappy exchange rate? J On Jan 29, 2008, at 12:37 PM, idm-digest-help@hyperreal.org wrote:

it's not rubbish... but i don't think it's worth a... what... fifty dollar purchase? is that what the special edition costs? i dunno... there were a couple pretty brilliant moments, but overall i am pretty bored by it. i guess it just depends on how much you like autechre just totally being autechre. a friend who also listened to it three times today said this, "it sounds like they just sit in the studio getting high and jamming, and then they cut sections out and call them songs." there is a bit of randomness and lack of attention to detail in a lot of it... i feel. this is just my opinion, you know? folks love autechre. i will probably listen to it a few more times. this probably did not help you in your decision at all. joshua On Jan 29, 2008 6:37 PM, William Lebreton <boutboulman@gmail.com> wrote:

It means the web application powering their store could not make a connection to their database server, in this case, MySQL, which means it's probably melting under the load of so many people downloading the new Autechre album. My initial thoughts about it are that, like most Autechre albums since Amber, it's going to take a while to sink in. I listened to it once today and there were some parts that immediately jumped out at me, unexpected melodic ambient bits, that I found quite pleasing and accessible. There's a lot more rhythmic structure and the algorithmic-y sounding bits of past albums seem mostly gone. It's like they're moving back towards writing songs than creating environments. It's gonna take repeated listening in various environments before I'm able to really decide how I feel. "Promising" is how I would characterize my immediate feelings. Given how essential Autechre has been to IDM, I think there's gonna be an impulse in some folks to dismiss this early on, as they finally feel like it's OK to express their disappointment with more recent past efforts. I say, give this release a chance on it's own first before trying to put it in the context of everything else. It's not easy, accessible eye-dee-emm music that you can throw down in your DJ set and make the girls think you're cool, but none of us were really expecting that, right? It's deep and complex and defies immediate characterization. I also think it needs to be *listened* to and not "worked" to. cheers w --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I'd say that if you give such a close listen to some other idm album you'll probably love it, too. Unfortunately ae is kind of very special in this way since everybody give a hard tries to understand their music. It's a pity that many other great albums don't get as much attention. P.S. I have listen to only couple of tracks of Quaristice so no emotions about it, yet. It's a just a sad fereling about all this hype... Walkman www.sutemos.net Wallace Winfrey parašė:
