Hey So I'm feeling some life changes, and some lost time and opportunities, all with respect to a recent great experience in California, and feeling pathetic for never having give in and done such a thing before, but happy as well... and so I wanted to reach out to the one resource I had that might give me an Intelligent answer. What's the (good) rave culture like around NYC? anything at all? Anything ever go on like this sort of stuff? I'm not and have never been plugged in but would like to be. http://www.sfraves.org/ http://acidtotem.net/ http://quiet.oof.org/ (not much info there anymore but perhaps you get the idea) Thanks for any kind souls' answers :) no matter how negative or historical :) -Adam --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

and what about about electronic music being performed in NYC?! i know datach'i lives here.. i saw him at tonic many years ago.. with matmos maybe? it was rad. it doesn't seem like there is anywhere for folks to play that stuff maybe? RecordCamp... those were good days.. .o9, hrvatski... i just saw YellowSwans and Mouthus live down the street from myself at IssueProjectRoom.org great venue that is very open to extremely experimental stuff. and would assuredly be open to electronics too... is live IDM (in most forms) just not happening much anywhere in the live arena? there sure haven't been many posts about such things in general... hell, why doesn't Otto come to nyc more often?! he should play NoiseFest next year!!!!

OK, I'll bite. I don't think it's off-topic, necessarily. What I loved about the experience I had in california was chiefly its outdoors, laid back, authentic nature. It was like coming home to someplace where PLUR (gag me with a spoon) was somewhat real. Where I didn't need to be anything and could be anything I wanted to be. enjoying the music and flying one's freak flag, or not, was totally cool. People smiled and said hello who didn't even know me, and I felt comfortable doing the same and not feeling like I needed to get to know them. Some drug use was accepted and no big deal, also meaning they had no coolness or ego trips attached to them. I was able to say I'd never done [whatever] and ask to try it, and get advice & help trying it. Everyone was just enjoying the music and the vibes. Yes, I know this has as much to do with my own psychic state and interpretation of the event as everyone else's. It just felt good. Knowing people who know is what I never do. I never know that sort of stuff. I was once a much more elitist person, and closed off and goody two shoes, etc., no matter how much I might have denied it at the time. I never had any friends who would have invited me to such an event, and when non-friends actually did, I said no. The world is what we make of it for ourselves and I was asking for suggestions so I might have some ideas for opportunities to make my world a little more. Thanks. Funny thing is Brian @ hyperreal (and of sfraves.org) is someone a very new friend of mine knows, strange how the networks of life connect in predictable ways. -Adam On Oct 20, 2007, at 7:58 PM, Ed Hoc wrote:
