Sure yeah, bleep has got lots to commend it by virtue of the fact that it don't have no DRM, and it's swift and straightforward to purchase once your account is set up... only little quibble I'd have is that they don't encode their mp3's at a higher bitrate - LAME alt-preset standard bitrate of 192 vbr is pretty good, but there are others offering less compressed audio... Both kompakt and beatport offer tracks at an (almost) standard 320 kbps across the board... granted you're probably not going to pick up quite as many "IDM/electronica" artists on these sites, their marketplace being moreso the club (whichever "house/techno" genre) sounds favoured by the four to the floor fraternity... Otherwise, as I've said before, a subscription with emusic is a pretty economical means of picking up a fair bit of a mix of allsorts of indepenently released musics, generally encoded at alt-preset-standard LAME, and with a surprising amount of quality sounds on tap. A 90 tracks monthly subscription costs little more than the price of a single album on CD... |---------+----------------------------> | | Zach Hoon | | | <sorted@saturn5.c| | | om> | | | | | | 28/03/2006 21:35 | | | | |---------+----------------------------> >------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | | | To: idm@hyperreal.org | | cc: | | Subject: [Possible Spam] Re: [idm] People who still pay for music shout-out... | >------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| i just want to take this moment to say hooray for bleep.com. i used to download all sorts of stuff, but i got sick of the crap quality and queues and all that. now i just use bleep. they have nearly everything i'm looking for, be it idm, weird ass stuff, indie, downtempo, etc, and they've turned me on to all sorts of music i might never have heard of. i'm sick of the space all the vinyl and cds take up. once the conversion to digital format is complete, i will sell it all off to make room for more books (and when they come up with a suitable digital format for books, bye bye hard copies!). sound quality schmound quality, 10 years of djing has made me deaf enough not to notice. drive failure? dvd backups. cover art and liner notes? bah, most of it sucks these days. bleep has become my onestop shop. anyone have any other music sites they'd care to recommend? itunes and their drm can suck it. i don't share files, but i don't want to have to 'authorize' every damn device i play my tracks on (i use a lot of different devices). wow this kinda turned into a rant, didn't it? crazy. music: i like wisp's 'nthndr'. nothing groundbreaking, but nice tunes. 'congratulations' is often repeated. i also want more from s.t. Audiobulb Records has its work out in digital shops and yes iTunes, eMusic, Napster and RealNetworks/Rhapsody seems to be where the action is in terms of sales. There is definately a sense that this is agrowth area and whilst CD sales drop off from some - digital sales are picking up. The eMusic deal seems like a good one. Which of these digital outlets do people find easiest or most useful to use? ----- Original Message ----- From: <Brian.Power@cso.ie> To: "Zach Hoon" <sorted@saturn5.com> Cc: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Wednesday, March 29, 2006 10:04 AM Subject: [idm] idm] People who still pay for music shout-out...

awesome show at an awesome space! chiptune/circuitbending is so damned IDM it kills me. this here be the future of your so-called genre! and honestly, not only is it creative and cool and strange... but the music is freaking fantastic nintendo rock. great fun. now if only i could convince my girlfriend... http://www.thetanknyc.org/spaceworks/ PULSEWAVE March 31 @ 10:00 Lowbit music finds a home in this first of a monthly series of events at The Tank. Gameboys, Nintendos, Homebrew Hardware, and more collide with the First New York appearance of Underground Game Music Legend /VIRT/. Backing him up will be chip rocking Game B-Boy /BIT SHIFTER/ and raw yet complex waveforms of /ONE BIT MUSIC/. Hear releases from Bleep blop powerhouse label /8BITPEOPLES/ all night. 8Bit Visuals from mangled NES VJ NOTENDO with all artists all night. PulseWave highlights the raw and rude world of Chipmusic, Gameboy beat boxing, lo-fi electronics and raw 8bit rock. Watch a generation of dithered youths brought up on a healthy diet of Italian plumbers, spiky mammals, and gender bending space pirates warp a fascination with the tinny tones of the past into the touch tone pulse of today. I don't think DRM is used in eMusic. What you get is what you keep without any restrictions. I use this service. Sincerely, Fred --- Karajabola <karajabola@gmail.com> wrote:
