Have seen him dj twice - Rephlex Allstars tour here in Cork and the
Autechre curated all tomms parties, both some years back, in the early 21st
century.
I remember the Allstars gig as a rip roaring laptop acid/gabba/hardcore/idm
mash-up with the occasional Aphex hit. Everybody there was doing their very
bestest freaky dance moves, many of them muchos caned on heinious
chemicals, which is kinda typical of Cork folk, what with it being a school
night (we only really start hitting the booze "seriously" at the weekends).
All Tomms Parties was a different affair entirely. I've only the very
faintest recollection of some breakcore-idm stuff at the beginning of the
set and some really ham fisted attempt to dance to it, before coming to, at
the back of the venue, the show over, the houselights on, stretched out
horizontally on the damp carpeted floor, wondering why the Aphex Twin was
only allowed a 10 minute dj set !
It was a Saturday night, so I reckon it was probably the booze that did it.
There's a moral in there somewhere, I reckon.
