Hey there! An inspired month of music - I just finished reading Simon Reynold's "Rip It Up And Start Again - Postpunk 1978-1984" and i cannot recommend it highly enough. Even if you're not into the music it covers, what i took from it was the drive and determination of the bands to push the boundaries and create something new. pretty inspirational stuff! Anyhoo, lots of new stuff to report from the HPLL camp.. +++++++ Bovaflux / Where There Was Nothing [hpll013] Freshly delivered yesterday morning, we just got the Bovaflux CDs back from the pressing plant. I've dropped off a couple at Smallfish which should be available early in the week, and packages are on their way to Norman records and Posteverything.com. Official release date wont be till early October while the machinations of press and publicity trundle away in preparation for store release. Software programmer Eddie Symons works all day coding elaborate and complex realities for video games lost in his own headphone world, to a soundtrack of indie-rock and broken electronica. Going home in the evening, he finds solace in creating a different kind of submersive environment - an equally enthralling and engaging framework.. His music is a beautiful hybrid sound, clearly influenced by intricate melody and structure, as much as it is based on complex beat programming, yet still retaining a simple elegance on the surface, easily allowing you to become deeply entrenched in the music, discovering more and more detail upon each further listen. Aquatic and fluid dub bass lines underpin lurching slow hip-hop inspired beats, rising surges of digital atmospherics and subtle flowing melodies. Download 'sleepytime' from: http://highpointlowlife.com/downloads/bovaflux_sleepytime.mp3 +++++++ The Village Orchestra / Et In Arcadia Ego [hpll014] The Village Orchestra is the solo project of Ruaridh Law, one third of Glasgow's Marcia Blaine School For Girls. Following on from the compilation appearances on "Some Paths Lead Back Again" and on Stuff003, his debut album is a melting-pot of creative energy, flowing from subtle drone based pieces through cinematic grandeur and evolving staccato rhythms. Now mastered and just finishing the artwork for it, it'll be at the pressing plant in a week or so, possibly back for next month.. Download two track teaser from: http://www.highpointlowlife.com/webreleases/thevillageorchestra_hpw004/thevillageorchestra_hpw004.html Oh, also, Ruaridh just played a live set on Radio Magnetic this past week, which he has archived on the Marcia website. If you go over there you can find the URl for the download .. http://marciablaine.cjb.net/ +++++++ randomNumber / Golden Acre Sleeps [hpll015] Music is finished and it's a truly beautiful sounding album of energetic beat programming, hypnotic melody and surging basslines. Artwork for the cover is being done at the moment, and should be ready for pressing in around a months time. Look for a teaser listen in the mix tape below... +++++++ Upcoming Live Shows.. Marcia Blaine / Production Unit / Accrual / Izu August 5th. next Numbers evening in Glasgow sees Village Orchestra and Production Unit DJ in support of Izu live and Magic Club live. Thats happening at Basura Blanca, Brunswick St. August 12th. Accrual's first ever live gig! At Stereo on Kelvinwaugh Street. See Marcia site for more details on both gigs. Tigrics. Enjoying what he was discovering of London, Robi Tigrics managed to get a job and has been soaking up all that London has to offer! Two upcoming gigs this month. Tuesday the 2nd of August, he plays at the Pool bar on Curtain Road in Shoreditch, at the ever-popular Multivitamins evening. He'll be playing alongside Cult With No Name and Emitexb. The following tuesday, he will be down in Brighton playing at the Wrong Music Evening with Shitmat and Miami Beat Alliance. I need to double-check and confirm this date, but pretty sure its going ahead.. +++++++ Download mixtap (almost a podcast) I was gonna try and setup a podcast for this month, but i should probably do it properly and rebuild the site on mysql with a proper rss feed, so while i work on that, i've put this mp3 mix up for download.. http://highpointlowlife.com/downloads/hpll_podcast_one.mp3 76MB, VBR mp3 - its pretty mixed up selection tho, some of it inspired by the 'Rip It Up..' book! tracklisting: 1.
