Here's an odd one. Off topic, but with a strange on-ness. In the spirit of encouraging open-mindedness and a certain exploratory spirit. Or just for the sheer hell of it. Have you noticed that there are one or two 'rock' bands (how quaint) that tend to appeal to people whose preferred tipple has an IDM flavour. Yes? No? OK, well, I have <steamrollering on>. I'll mention Interpol as an example of a band who seem to have a strangely compelling quality for a number of peeps I know who tend to shun R-word outfits. So, anyway, if you're one of these types or suspect you might be a closet fan of dark-tinged atmospheric melodic er... guitar-with-vocals-bass'n'drums music (phew), then I suggest you look out for a bunch from Birmingham called Editors (without a 'The', I believe) who have some new stuff coming out now which bears the hallmarks of a new Bunnymen or Joy Division or er... is it OK to mention U2...? *Early* U2...? Er... You've all gone quiet... I'll get me coat... alan ---------------------- Alan Lockett (Senior Language Co-ordinator - EFL) Language Centre, University of Bristol, 30-32 Tyndall's Park Road, Bristol, BS8 1PY, UK tel: +44 (0)117 3310914 e-mail: Alan.R.Lockett@bristol.ac.uk --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

i could reccomend several bands in this vein, a subtle mixture of electronics and live music insturmentation, i think it's a growing trend, particularly with bands out of european countries. check: Toman Slowblow Autistic Daughters Fog ...anyway, yeah, i think that the way rock music, you know, the good stuff, is changing, is bringing it more in line with IDMy ideas...and stuff... josh23 On Thu, 16 Jun 2005 17:50:47 +0100, Alan Lockett wrote

Alan -- I'm definitely one of those IDM-cum-Interpol fans. In this vein I'm quite taken with the Bloc Party album "Silent Alarm". The touchpoint is more Clash than Bunnymen, but it grabbed me similarly. My gal said it was "too noisy" but I think that was because it wasn't playing loud enough. -- - Eric Sorenson - N37 17.255 W121 55.738 - http://eric.explosive.net - - Personal colo with a professional touch - http://www.explosive.net - --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Beef Terminal http://www.beefterminal.com/ I've spent the last week making tracks with guitar. Linked here http://www.livejournal.com/users/chaircrusher/ has links in the last few posts... I know a lot of electronic musicians who bear no prejudice against rock -- DJ T1000 is way into early 90s shoegazer stuff like My Bloody Valentine and Swervedriver. Stuntrock loves him some classic rock. Donna Summer is all about Prog Rock. In general the only people who like just one kind of music are young and looking to identify themselves with the subculture based around that music. Being into electronic music and having a list of rockish stuff that you've decide is cool enough to admit liking is such a hipsterish thing -- I don't have time for it. I like Johnny Cash a lot, and John Coltrane, and Zap Mama, and Bach, and the Wailing Souls, and IDM, and House Music, and Techno, and Disco, and Funk and ...
