Ooooo, a-ttack-er tickets. Why won't the list stop talking about dead artists and start talking about something new. No, not the new Autechre cd. I mean, come on, when was the last time this guy put out a timeless album? I'm with kiya, et al. If the SF show is anything like NYC (sonofabitch if was good!!) you all are in for a treat -- don't let the gritty taste foul ya -- it's audio sadistic heaven. To ed, not only is Beck irrelevant to the list, he's *at least* as played out as ae, and half as down to earth. (his t-shirts are better tho) Talk up autechre more please, they bring integrity to this so-called genre. Champions of IDM relax, if the bar weren't set so high, we'd have no right to call it Intelligent. In fact, most of what's out there barely qualifies for the ill gotten moniker. mm.... truth. we did discuss the new venetian snares - at length. we discovered that he did not in fact perform the violin pieces himself but rather sampled them to create the amazing composition that they are. several links to articles about the album were provided as well. i believe aphex twin came up during the discussion by proxy. the album is new, highly recommended and equally amazing as 'huge chrome cylinder box unfolding'. we are all very happy with this release. regarding the new soft pink truth - really, it's crap. i adore the first album but this new one is maybe a one-good-track album. if not for the artists involved it wouldnt even remotely qualify as idm. concept album yes, good covers and remixes? no. the new beck album with BOC remix? yawn... how's that for talking about "dead" artist? shimone/justes http://www.staticbeats.com http://www.jungle-life.com --- kiya iamacopier babzani <denial@ix.netcom.com> wrote:

Homosexual is a great track. I love there cover of out of step, I interviewed Ian Mackaye a couple of weeks ago and played it for him, he loved it. Personally, I'd rather have discussion of interesting-but-not-really-IDM music than no discussion of music. What's the BOC mix like anyway? That reminds me - wasn't there talk of a new album, or at least something new from them before too long? They've had three years to work on it now...

Haven't heard it. But quite good, and in a vaguely SPT vein is [A]pendics Shuffle's Smooth Hair, on Proptronix. Nice twisted electro bounce. Is anyone else into this, and is their latest 12 on Orac as good?

One more thing that's been rocking me recently is the new album from Mika Vanio (operating as O - or rather, one of those Scandinavian 'O's with a line through it) - Kantamoinen. It's very nice ambient synthscapes in a sort of mid-90's Fax style, but a bit more focused and with occasional retro echoes of old academic electronic music or of Tonto's Expanding Head Band. Very lovely.
