this list has been mad quiet so let me ask a potentially off-topic question: I've been spending more and more time reading sci fi and am looking for suitable music to soundtrack it the parallels between idm and SF are obvious and need no explanation. however Autechre/Dalglish/other IDM I'm still excited by is too hype to read to and I'm not really into the Boards of Canada-influenced strain of *lush downtempo* (well I am but I'm just too picky to take recs) any ideas? something more active than "deep space ambient" but not too distracting Bill Laswell & Terre Thaemlitz – Web, some Tetsu Inoue and later Phoenicia all fit the bill I love the label ~scape which maybe slots into this but I'm looking for something colder. like a less hardcore Roland Kayn thank you all for your service

cheers - thank you all! yes, those noto+sakamoto records were/are huge for me. Definitely spent some time with Sakamoto today - Esperanto & Smoochy specifically. Incredible discography - at one point I felt like I exhausted those first two noto+sakamoto albums from listening to them so much but i'm due for a revisit. never listened past the first xerox - thanks for the reminder. good call. that's the sort of mechanical spirit I'm seeking! :-) don't know that lusine - always dug his poppy stuff on ghostly and was vaguely aware that he did more technoid stuff for Ant-Zen/Hymen under that name variation- will check Kayn rec is good actually. he's got so much stuff it's intimidating so I never properly got started but what little I heard was super dense. looking forward to it ok cracking The Machine Stops by E. M. Forster and putting this to the test. Thanks again and keep the recs coming! On Sun, Apr 2, 2023 at 4:26 PM kawayama <kawayama@gmail.com> wrote:

Hi Chris, Try Vladislav Delay, start with the albums "Entain" and "Multila". They induce you into a dreamlike state, perfect for reading. And I found them really great as a soundtrack to William Gibson novels. After some listens, pieces start to fall into place, your subconscious will love it :) Luis Marta. Anima has always been extremely cyberpunk to me. Might be the almost organic / live played feel of the album. Absolutely one of my favorites. I love Luomo so much that I like that Paper Tigers album lol I dug the Lusine rec. I really loved that Kayn - just had to play it at a nice low volume. I am Kayn-pilled now Ty On Tue, Apr 4, 2023 at 5:09 AM Charlie Webster <cwcharliewebster@gmail.com> wrote:

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Yagya yet - he's released a lot of deep, dubby goodness over the years; the earlier releases quite cold (probably Iceland-related... :), the newer ones a bit warmer and with more and more vocals that IMHO fit very well. On 05.04.2023 17:23, Chris Taylor wrote:

Oooooh ELLO! My music is basically designed for scifi enjoyment. If you like post-rock and IDM maybe give it a listen. It even has some scifi lore to it =) https://brokenatoms.bandcamp.com/ https://www.youtube.com/@brokenatoms7889 All the artwork etc is inspired by old soviet scifi and TDR stuff too, so hopefully it's something you might enjoy Loving the suggestions here anyway, gives me something to listen to while reading the William Gibson book I'm on atm. Cheers Chris =) On Wed, 5 Apr 2023 at 17:57, Kurt Prünner <leak@gmx.at> wrote:

This track from coil reminds me of what I think a robot from Orwell's 1984 or Gilliam's Brazil, would 'hear' in their processors. https://youtu.be/Z8R7lgW7SZo On Thu, Apr 6, 2023, 12:10 a.m. Chris Adam <c.p.adam88@gmail.com> wrote:

When I listen to this, I wonder if a cyborg would perceive something like this in its head. https://youtu.be/Z8R7lgW7SZo I'll keep this request in mind though. I'm currently in search of the 'new sound' but organic. It started with recommending the Japonize Elephants to the composer of my new favorite band, Tambura Rasa, whom happened to be delighted that others were creating music in the same vein as he makes. Then I found the composer of the Japonize Elephants, Sylvain Carton, and am going through the dozen or so projects he's been a part of, and then digging into each band member to see what other cool projects each of them partake in. Since this is something that also piques my interest, I'll see what I can dig up. Maybe Blaerg, Loscil, or Qebrus worked on similar themes in collaboration?
