Everyone, I am happy to report that I have recived my free ipod. And then, about a week later, they went ahead and sent me a free Tshirt! Anyway, with the Tshirt, they were advertising a new site for free PICTURE 40GB ipods. Have any of you guys gotten your freeipods yet? If you want a picture one, you gotta get 10 referrals, instead of five - but I think it's worth it. Even if you refer yourself 9 times :) If you decide you want to try for the free picture ipod, please use my link: http://www.freephotoiPods.com/?r=13749338 Thanks to this free ipod, I can listen to El-Clon - Bakalaka Tree when I am in the car. That track rocks, dude. -Barry __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - You care about security. the free ipod site supposively is legit. i did one of those emarketresearch things though and never received my free nintendo ds. they sent me an e-mail saying it was shipping pending shipping authoratization but the link just took me back to the same series of sign up for these e-mail offers i had to fill out the first time. tried e-mailing them and the e-mail was returned. peace, a On Jan 27, 2005, at 10:21 PM, Mark Schieldrop wrote:

ooh. I beg to differ, honey. As somebody who works in and around music, I can't say how useful it is to have (nearly) my entire library of recordings on one little, portable hard drive. With a mini-stereo->RCA Audio converter, I can connect my iPod to the sound system in a lecture hall/classroom spontaneously. I've stopped counting how many "songs" I own, but my 40G baby is brimming with musical samples. Mind you, I will agree that many people don't use iPods to their full capabilities. But you could say the same thing about the PC market as a whole: how many people are landing aircraft with their new G5s? =] LMG On Jan 30, 2005, at 3:16 PM, ed c wrote:

Hmmm...interesting thought...I just checked, I have 8,177 files in my music folder...109 GB...that's what I've collected in the past few years...most all of it is legit (or so ridiculously rare that I could not get it "legit")...crazy. I'm sorta' waiting until the MP3 players break the 100 GB barrier...that and a good gapless play feature. 337is -----Original Message----- From: ed c [mailto:echurch86@yahoo.com] Sent: Sunday, January 30, 2005 4:16 PM To: Indigo Danelions Merrygolds Subject: RE: [idm] ipod its funny how useless an ipod is to the average consumer. My first 40G iPod is full. My second is is up to about 25G and I expect to max that one out as well. I'll be travelling for the next year or so and not being able to take my 600 or so cds with me, I cannot understate how valuable these two little monsters will be to me. Perhaps a girlyman, yes? I think the only thing that bothers me about those little thingers that hold a bajillion tracks is that the failure mode is so extreme. 1950 -- you scratch your record you hear a little click. You gouge the crap out of it, and one song doesn't play, the rest still do. You crack the record, you can still play the songs that aren't cracked. 1983 - you scratch your cd, it starts sounding like Oval. You scratch it too much, it's unplayable. 2004 - you drop your ipod, and it comes up SadMac, and 5000 songs are gone - poof. Sure you've got those files at home, but you're in Botswana and the only music available is bad South African pop* and guys beating on logs** As storage capacity has gone up, what you lose when something goes wrong gets bigger. * I don't know anything about South African pop music, Irene, but generally where there's pop music, there's bad pop music. **guys beating on logs can be super cool: http://tinyurl.com/5yfyf --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Surely the home computer and maybe even a couple of extra backup disks are more portable than a turntable and record collection. You have kind of a point, but the fact that you can so easily make copies of your entire collection now more than compensates. Sure, if I gouge one of my records I can play the other side and all of my other records, but maybe the one that I gouged was my favorite rare, out-of-print track and I can't find another copy for less than the price of an iPod :-) -- Tim Moore --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

and you take out the mini-HD drive to & buy a used ipod from a guy in Sengal, Capetown, or Kenya or really any of the metropolises that spot Africa these days. You then proceed to buy tons and tons of afro-beat and pop music never released outside of Africa and sell it to Damon Albaron for millions =) one annoying thing is that the mini-hd formats aren't standardized, hence you can't take an ipod hd pop it into one of those new sony hd-players and keep rocking. it's really annoying. give it all a few years though and we'll have removable mini-hds instead of cds and they'll come with video games, and web site codes, and all sorts of wonderful things, and maybe (if we're lucky) they'll come bundled in free t-shirts. You're SO right :-) As I read your mail and came across the first asterisk, I automatically assumed you'd have a footnote there for me - thank you! At the moment I'm on my first magical listen-through of Bola's Gnayse which arrived here today via a very circumlocuitious route (is that a word? it sounds busy enough to get across my general meaning). My neighbour's nephew is here from England to do a one-month dentistry work-experience thingy and I jumped in with a plea for him to bring this along (never met him before). After much to and fro (I think they're strictly Celine Dion people) they managed to locate it and Sister Ray's sent it to them by mail before their departure and they arrived in Cape Town Sunday morning. I'm happy to say it was a good choice and I'm enjoying it enormously. Thanks to ALL who assisted me with my London music shop query. I've already ripped it to my MP3 player (a miserable little 128 meg affair that holds one album at a time at 192 VBR... so stop showing off about your iPod's, right?!) This wouldn't be a problem with the iPod, but with the user. Just don't drop it and it'll work fine.

still very happy with my 1 year old 20gb dell jukebox... -rachel (don't need a shiny white case that costs an extra $200...if you want a swanky cover, try skinit.com!) On Mon, 31 Jan 2005 00:12:32 -0600, Albers, Brian <BAlbers@premiereradio.com> wrote:
