I was in vegas for the first time earlier this year. It's sad to say that the club scene is dominated by pure vapid musical entertainment. I paid twenty dollars to see: A very loud police siren blasting through the club. A fake dj on stage pretend to be cueing records and mixing, only to come out from behind the turntables to pump up the uneducated crowd during song transitions a even faker dj in the booth at the back (it was one main room). at least this one seemed to have control of the music... and the siren. rock blocks of 5 generic ravey tracks, then a rock block of 5 pop rock bands (bon jovi was given a block, as was 'the boss'). a very annoying, and loud siren blasting over all the music for minutes at a time. Basically i was left with two feelings: 1) I will never vacation ANYWHERE that doesn't have a decent night life. 2) Vegas is not known for it's underground scene. I got back and did a pretty extensive google search - not even one known artist in any self-respecting electronic music genre was found. Hell, Paul Oakenfold would have been better than these two jokers at Ra the club inside the Luxor. All the results that came up where for no-names with which I could discern had no taste in music - IDM or otherwise. Good Luck. Best bet is to get in good with a venue outside of downtown, and promote your own weekly events. There are some of us out in vegas that like IDM...there's me, and the supposed 8 IDM artists. I'm afraid it's hopeless for us. The only venue I can think of that could possibly attract some crowd would be cafe roma across from UNLV. Nice relaxed atmosphere, and maybe it'll start a buzz in our town.
