got this on the gabber list, but the Daedelus post reminded me of it,
so it might be interesting for some in here as well

Subject: [gabber] Lemur Jazz Mutant MultiToch Control Surface
To: gabber@hyperreal.org
http://www.jazzmutant.com/lemur_overview.php
LEMUR is a handy and modular touchpanel based controller designed for audio and
multimedia real-time applications. Our technology associates multitouch
capabilities with visual display. LEMUR is provided with an extensible library
of User Interface Objects such as faders, switchs, pads, keyboards, strings,
etc. A software editor (Windows, Mac OSX, Linux) allows the user to build
easily his own interfaces by dragging and dropping objects on the control area.
The JazzMutant software editor also provides advanced tools to map and setup
objects and control parameters.
What do you mean by "Multitouch capabilities" ?
It means that it allows the use of multiple fingers at once, thanks to its
multitouch sensitive LCD.
What is LEMUR designed for ?
# Among other applications, LEMUR can be used as : a live performance
instrument to play OSC compatible virtual synthesizer (Max/MSP/Jitter, Reaktor,
audiomulch, Sonasphere, Pure Data, etc.)
# a DJ, VJ and Light Jockey modular deck
# an intuitive tool to control DSP plugins and virtual instruments
# other music, video and sound processes
Is LEMUR a MIDI Device ?
LEMUR is NOT a MIDI device. It includes a built-in100 BaseT Lan interface which
can be directly linked to the host computer ethernet port. The protocol used to
exchange data is OpenSoundControl (OSC). Compare to MIDI, OSC is much more
efficient, convenient and reliable. Among other advantages, OSC has the
following features : 32-bits precision, no additional hardware interface, no
latency, simple specification and easy setup. At last, several LEMUR and
computers can be linked together using a basic hub.
