I went to a Sonic Youth show recently, and Wolf Eyes opened for them. They're industrial/dark ambient. I was trying to get into their music, but it wasn't doing anything for me. At one point I started to feel terrible, like I needed to throw up and my head was spinning. I felt so bad I had to sit down, and the only thing I can attribute it to is the music. As soon as the song was over I felt better. This thread just reminded me of it...the end :) ak In a message dated 10/3/2004 12:51:14 PM Pacific Standard Time, chthonic@chthonicstreams.com writes: Subject: Re: [idm] records too creepy to fall asleep with ------------------------------------------------------------------------

i don't think this is so much a disagreement as an exception. you were 8. of course you're going to be scared by stuff as a kid. i'm talking about adults. grown men and women saying this song or that band is so dark or so scary - i just don't get it. d.

That's great. Wolf eyes did the same thing to me at the 2003 demf/movement festival. Since my friends were rocking out over by the speakers I thought it was just me. Maybe its intentional that they try to create nausea in the listener. That still doesn't explain my friends rocking out though. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Sounds like Ultra low frequency sound waves, they'll shake your insides up so bad your liver and insides explode, if exposed to them for long enough and loud enough. Throbbing Gristle were into them, I think. So was Tesla, and suppossedly that HARPP project up in the boonies of Alaska is related to those experiments. I have this "Close to Absolute Zero" comp cd that the last track you can't really hear, but when you look at the meters on the mixer, it's peaking like crazy! Speaking of which, anyone heard any idm with binaural beats, which are suppossed to induce alpha or theta brain waves? --- Blake Mikesell <djfuckstick@tmail.com> wrote:

I have heard of holosync or hemisync frequencies that induce theta waves but never in conjunction with beats. Also I don't know if anyone ever heard the emre: dark matter compilation but it had the highest and lowest frequencies I had ever heard on an album. Sub notes so low that you can't hear them but when I took the cover to my sub-woofer off, I could see that the rubber lining was moving an inch in each direction, in and out, at a rate of about once per second. Also, a girl I went to high school with mixes for dance clubs sometimes, she said she's been experimenting with mixing the brown/black note in the background of other tracks to see if she can make anyone sick, she says it has worked before.

Check out Ryoji Ikeda's +/- http://www.brainwashed.com/ryoji/recordings.html "+/- has a particular sonority whose quality is determined by one's listening point in relation to the loudspeakers. Furthermore, the listener can experience a particular difference between speaker playback and headphone listening. The sound signals can be thought of in the same way as spotlights. Lastly, a high frequency sound is used that the listener only becomes aware of upon its disappearance."
