i love the "breathy"-ness of it. she's taking a risk with what she's doing. if she put big techno beats under those (well written) songs, she'd probably sell thousands more copies, but she didn't. it's commendable, and even if some of the songs fall short because of their experimentation, well at least she tried. true, its noble to try, but i think she relied a little too much on it this album. i wouldnt have cared enough to spam you all had it not been for the fact that it felt like 50% of the songs on this record degenerated into a mess of moaning. i really do like the way they constructed their beats our of "beabox" slices. an old idea done freshly. Well, unless you like the sound of the moaning. Aside from all of the neat conceptual things that her album brings forward, I also just like the sound of the human voice being used in unusual/unmusical ways. I think it's the same reason why I dig the way the Soft Pink Truth (aka Drew Daniel) works with voice samples. here I'm thinking of "Coat Check" or "Soft Pink Missy" or "Everybody's Soft". Akufen, too, now that I think about it. Luis (a small point of detail: isn't most of the moaning coming from Tagaq, not Bjork? I suppose it's not always that easy to tell them apart when the texture is that dense) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Politics is parlour tricks." -W. On that note, Ark's treatment of vocals has always struck me as unique... well most everything about Ark is unique when I think about it. He gets a peculiar sense of idiocy from them with out slowing down the sample to much. hrm... i suppose htere could be some others, but there are lots of passages where they are like 4-8 overdubs of bjork harmonizing alone that just dont do it for me. -- ________________________________________________________________ live experimental electronic music -- http://bluevitriol.com independent u.s. drum'n'bass -- http://vitriolix.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Add Matthew Dear to that, and that's been my ipod list for the past few days. It somehow made the whole moving-to-new-country thing go more smoothly.

Ah. You see, I *love* that bit. I'm more crazy about "triumph of a heart" and "who is it" as whole tracks, but I also love that part. Something strangely narcissistic about several overdubs of the same voice. Or maybe it's masturbatory. Either way, I likes it. Luis
