Dino Felipe is one of the most interesting artists/ musicians in
Florida or generally the U.S. period. Ranging from early on experiments
where he dressed women in white clothes and then staged a food fight in
a gallery to intense noise for labels like Public Eyesore he's
basically the enfant terrible of music making. His earlier work on
Schematic focused on ambient pop that skewed melody in a way strangely
reminiscent of Pavement. With Runway and Finesse (his collaboration
with vocalist Melba) he's taken all of this a step forward. Hollowed
and plastic pop that bends in every-way possible while referencing
Question Mark and the Mysterians, Sade, Royal Trux, Ike and Tina
Turner, and Harry Pussy (who he recorded with) he's making a niche of
pop close to animal collective or even Of Montrael's latest that's
kinda totally bad ass. Recently he's been dressing up in Eric
Chipendale face masks while flanks of women spank him as he plays the
laptop and Melba sings. And we all remember the donkey man, the mummy,
and the bacon from the entire Fehlman/ Jelineck fiasco and then the
time he threw Florida toursits brouchures on us while playing New Bombs
before Otto. A show and some music too. Runway and Finesse's full
length is due on Schematic later this year. Thank Rom and Josh, this
shit is good.
