Pulled out my "Artificial Intelligence II" compilation on Warp the other night to hear some of the Global Communication (man do I miss them!!) and Beaumont Hannant tracks. While looking over the liner notes, I noticed the 1994 copyright and had to think "WOW - 10 YEARS OLD, I remember when this came out." In browsing the Warp website, I noticed that the release date was May 30, 1994. So the release just had its birthday last week! It's hard to believe I have been listening to this type of music for 10 years now. This was one of the first few IDM releases I purchased back in 1994 (Orbital's "Snivilization", Aphex Twin's "I Care...", Autechre's "Basscadet"/"Anti" EPs, and Seefeel's "Starethrough" EP also come to mind). It's also nice to see how well all the tracks on this compilation have stood the test of time. The Autechre, Darrell Fitton, B12, and Link (and basically all of them) still sound fresh today. Well done Warp! -Mike --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

How funny. I was just listening to this the other day on the way home from work. For the first time... in a while. And yeah, it still sounds good. This was also one of my first IDM-ish releases, and really opened the door for me to other artists doing this kind of stuff at the time. Although, I have to admit, I don't think I picked this up until sometime in 1995. -Alan Quoting Michael Stein <Michael.Stein@allscripts.com>:

I think my first two Warp releases were Polygon Window and Amorphous Androgynous. Still sound as fresh to me today as they did back then (tho AA blew my doors off back then, not quite the same effect today). -- jr On Fri, 4 Jun 2004 14:38:54 -0400, Alan R Lucas <arlucas@telerama.com> wrote:

After all this list talk, I pulled it out as well... that 'hidden' Scanner track on Disc 1 is pretty amusing :-) and yes, the musical content hold up brilliantly. absolutely agree. Syntetika create great atmosphere, and i like both of their albums very much. especially the track Glaciers on the first album. also, if you've noticed in the last track on 100% Syntetika (wetrax) they have the same melody as Fizzarum's Microphorus! ____________________________________________________________ Yahoo!
