Now that those other "Album of the Year" candidates have been exposed as the sad imposters that they really are, the true Album of the Year can step forward. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you RATATAT. This is truly the best use of guitars in anything that might possibly be considered IDM in the past five years, at least. Not including that edIT disc, which is pretty awesome, too. Plus, it's E*Vax! C'mon! Standouts include, but are not limited to: Seventeen Years (RAWK!!!) El Pico (check out those arpeggios!) Cherry (for the emo kids) Riffs, yeah! Can u dig it? -Alan --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

You know, I first listened to the album last weekend and thought it was crap, but thanks to you I just pulled it out again to give it another shot. It really is pretty remarkable. Definitely off-track for me, but there's a lot of interesting happenings in it. Kinda have to pull my brain back into the college rock mode I was in during the 90s to fully appreciate it, but it's a good album, no doubt. But album of the year? Oh hell no. Of course not. Album of the year is o9 - 'Church of the Ghetto P.C.', on Schematic. It's been a long week...and a weak year. seek np: Kid Spatula - Meast (disc 1) (would have been album of the year in 1998, if Mike Paradinas'd released then. It's funny listening to Meast and being all like "Oh, he used that in Lunatic Harness. That was on Royal Astronomy." I mean, I love Meast. It's great to have more of that classic Mu-Ziq stuff. I still kinda wish that Aphex'd lay some of his older unreleaseds on us. But I'm sure that will never happen. What *was* album of the year for 1998. I'd bet it was Music Has The Right To Children. In that case, I'm not sure. It's a tight race. I'd probably lean toward Meast, though. Maybe. -Alan Quoting seeklektek <eclectics@comcast.net>:

Polite request: when someone puts out a record that you don't like, it's probably fair to assume that their tastes differ from yours and they thought it was good, not that it's a cynical ploy to make huge amounts of money releasing crap because millions of people worldwide will buy any rubbish with their name on. Although I'll admit that Aphex might be the exception to this... ObIDM: what do people think of the new Freeform?
